Cross, «°f S h°o1 B°ard Hls long hours of hard work spent on the building and improve- ments of our school have been greatly appreciated. Mr. Cross graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1928 with a Bachlor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was discharged from the service in 1946 with a rank of Captain. He came to New England in 1946 as manager of Slope Electric Coopertives. Mr. Cross has been on the school board for the past 14 years. They were led through their senior year by James Klien Pres'dent; Alton Steinmetz, Vice President; Frank Powell, Secretary-Treasure; and Leland Johnson, Student Council Representative. Not Finished Just Begun” was chosen as their mot to and the Pink Carnation was their class flower. On graduation night honors went to several members of the class. Carol Hellekson was Val- edictorian and Susanne Anderson and Pat Rafferty were Co-Salutatorians. The were the following: Susanne Anderson, Lyle Austin, Junior Dukart, Judy Erickson, Roy Flaaen, Clarence Farber, Gene Hartmen , Clifford Gatzke, Carol Hellekson, Paul Hogue, James Klien, Betty Nielson, Leland Johnson, Frank Powell, Patricia Rafferty, Sharon Roe, Roger Ruggles, Ivan Rustan, Gary Schultz, Carol Sorenson, Alton Steimetz, Linda Wendling, Duane Wilen, Stanley Wilen, Karl Wilen and Loretta Zenker. During the year, however, we lost Paul Hogue so we finished our first year with 26. Our class was lead by Alton Steinmetz with Karl Wilen as Vice- President, Judy Erickson as secretary and Pat Rafferty as treasurer. Mr. Frank was our class advisor. As our sophmore year began we were sadened by the loss of Roger Ruggles and Gene Hartmen who transferred to Hettinger. We were happy to receive, however, Corrine Graybull and Allen Walch. As the year progressed we lost Lyle Austin. Officers for the year were; President Lyle Austin, Vice-President Frank Powell,Secretary Susanne Anderson and Treasurer Carol Hellekson. Mr. Schopp was our advisor • When our Junior year began we had lost Clarence Farber and Corrine Graybull, but had gained four new members, Eileen Astopkovich, Mary Lynne Bautz, Sandra Morland, and Peggy Fleming. Also later in the year Stanley Wilen returned to our ranks. During the year, however, we lost Linda Wendling. On November 18th we presented our Junior Class play, Rarin' To Go 1, directed by Miss Huber. For our Prom we chose the theme Evening in Paris . That year our class officers were Pres. Frank Powell, Vice-Pres. Alton Steinmetz, Sec. and Treas. Carol Sorenson. Our advisors were Mr. Resset and Mr. Huber. As we began our last year in NEHS we lost one member, Ivan Rustan , but gained two: Kathy Neider and Clarence Holm. During the year we lost Stanley Wilen. Officers were Pres. Jim Klien, Vice-Pres. Alton Steinmetz and Sec.-Treas. Frank Powell. Our advisors were Mr. Frank and Mr. Broton. On April 27, we presented our class play Pecks Bad Boy , directed by Mr. Reinke. On May 15th our class night was held. On the 17th we left for the Black Hills to return on the 20th for Baccalaureate. Graduation followed on the 25th. Clarence Holm, better known as Skip, Is one who always has plenty of zip. Leland Johnson is a tall thin lad. When he's around you re never sad. Through four years we've made our way, With joys and tears from day to day. Before we go, we'll leave this rhyme. To remind you of us from time to time. Jim Klein, president of our class is he, Another John Kennedy he will be. Sandra Morland is quiet and shy. But you can be sure she will say Hi. Susanne Anderson will find a guy. When working for the F.B.I. A nurse to be is Eileen A. We would recommend her any day. Kathleen Neider a newcomer to our class, Should have been sooner this is the last Betty Neilson won't have time to be free Because she is a bride-to-be. Mary Bautz is a fair haired gal, A swell girl and a real pal. Junior Dukart is tall and quiet, But when he gets started he's a riot. Frank Powell is one of our class leaders For a nice girl he'd run thirty meters. Pat Rafferty is a real smart lass, All tests and courses she's sure to pass Judy Erickson likes to ride horse, She'll have to stay on it, of course. Roberta Erickson about five foot three, She buzzes around like a bumble bee. A working girl is Sharon Roe, She's decided she needs some dough. Gary Shultz the one with a red-white car You can be sure he'll go fast and far. Roy Flaaen always has candy and gum. But when you see him he's on the run. Peggy Fleming is a dark haired girl. She likes to be in the social whirl. Clifford Gatzke is quite a star, When he plays his electric guitar. Carol Hellekson who is known as Grace, Will someday learn not to race. Carol Soreson, better known as Carol Sue Has many places to go and things to do. Alton Steinmetz is of basketball fame. The free throw trophy has his to claim. Allen Walch from Washington came, Because he heard of New England's fame. Loretta Zenker is full of whiz. The teacher's best friend is what she is Carol and Roberta, the poets to be, Maybe you didn't like it, but neither did we. U On the night of May 28, 1963 the senior class of 1963, graduated from New England High School after completing the requirements set up by the board of education and the State Department of Public Instruction. Sharon Farber was chosen as Valedictorian and William Rafferty was chosen as Salutatorian. The Senior class officers were as follows: Sharon Farber-president, Richard Bohlman-vice-pres- ident, Nancy Cross-secretary-treasurer, and William Rafferty-student council representative. At that time the class consisted of Roger Anderson, James Bartow, Richard Bohlman, Robert Baumann, Maragert Buzalsky, Richard Buzalsky, Mitchell Chaska, Linda Colgrove, Linell Col- grove, Nancy Cross, Connie Erickson, Richard Flaaen, Sharon Farber, Gordon Gatzke, Gary Gussey, Alvin Haagenstad, Joe Hafele, Karon Kivimagi, Carol Olson, William Rafferty, and Dennis Williams. Linds Colgrove led us as president, Sharon Farber, as vice president, Nancy Cross as secretary, and Robert Baumann as treasurer. Miss Schmitz was our advisor. We were initiated 00 September 15, 1959. We started our sopomore year of high school in 1960 with the loss of Richard and Maragert Buzalsky, Joe Hafele, and Dennis Williams. In that year we gained Sarah Fleming, Terry Lange, Delores Hares, and Colleen Hiller. We lost Terry Lange at the half of the year. On November 17, 1961 our class put on a Junior Class Play, Three Fingers In the Door. which was directed by Miss Huber. Our prom theme was Stairway To The Stars, ' was a great success. We were advised by Mr. Huber, Mr. Resset, and Miss Huber. Miss Peterson also helped a great deal after Miss Huber left. On April 19, 1963 we put on our Senior Class Play. Class night was held on May 21 1963. On the morning of May 23 we left for the annual Senior class trip to the Black Hills . We came back on May 25th. in time for our baccularte serviecs. On May 28, we had our big night of Graduation. We took with us the toughest class of NEHS including Football, Basketball, and Track teams. We also took the laughter and enjoyments from the halls with us. CLASS POEM Roger Anderson better knc m as Andy In history class he enjoys eat’n candy. Rick Bohlman a great sportsman at heart In Math 4 class enjoys arguing his part. Mitch Chaska has on his shoulders a head But his 5 years of college he is to dread. Nancy Cross is sweet and shy But someday she’ll find one soecial guy. Connie Erickson who is jolly and gay Is the President of our F.J.A. This little chick is quit a brain Sharon Faye Farber is her name. Sarah Fleming always looking for joys Can be found with a bunch of boys. Gordon Gatzke a swinging man With his guitar has many a fan. Gary Gussey who is big and tall A 1000 miles for a girl he’d dig. Alvin Haagenstad is short and shy Around the station is quit a guy. Arnold Holm is a real smart kid Ask anyone they don’t know what he did. Delores Hares who we call Hares Walks around without any cares. Colleen Hiller an Amidon lass Is the newest member to our class. Karon Kivimagi is a kind little lass She is the shortest of the class. Carol Olson who works in a cafe Will be a lovely bride someday. The Tigers finished the season with a 3-1 record, which was good for the S.W. conference champs. In the middle of the season the team lost Gary Jung due to an injury. Ricky Bohlman led the team with scoring honors and James Bartow was second. Ricky Bohlman and Billy Rafferty were Co-captains. All in all the Tigers enjoyed a good season.
