Nineteen forty-eight was a big year for this world. Harry S. Tru- man, the piano-playing senator from Missouri, was elected President of the United States of America and the Class of '52 started their fresh- men year at New England High School. The class consisted of: Bruce Carlson, Janice Billson, Eunice Try— znka, Douglas Stenmoen, Lawrence Stafford, LeRoy Schwartz, Marion Red- lin, Vernon Paulson, Charles Olson, Carol Olson, Ernest Multhaup, Eu- gene Mesling, Doris Jones, Fern Johnson, Ervin Hjemvik, Jean Hanson, Jimmy Gilbert, Richard Gatzke, Margaret Erickson, John Dubisar,Jr., Io- la Dubisar, Roberta Colgrove, Verna Bohlman, Charles Bender, Jimmy Ballweber, and Caroline Ballweber. At the beginning of the second semester Theone Stark was added to our class and we lost Bruce Carlson and Janice Billson. 13 (History continued) After selecting our class officers we went about our humble and mea- ger duties as the poor green freshmen. With the help of our advisor, Mr. Bushey, we sponsored many activi- ties. Many of the members of our class took part in the Dramatic Club production of Marrying Margret. When we entered our sophomore year we lost four members. During this year members of our class took part in the first variety show. This has now become an annual affair. Advancing to the junior row in the study hall of N. E. H. S. we en- tered one of our hardest years. But guided by the capable hands of Mrs. Hazel Madsen as our advisor, we passed through that difficult and event- ful year. The junior play, Never Say Die , was a success as was the Junior- Senior Prom which was dominated by waving palms and scented flowers. In the fall of 51 we entered our senior year — our happiest and most difficult. With Mr. Broton as our advisor we began to go places. School spirit went up. The seniors were outstanding on the football field, the basketball court, and in the cheering section. Our mystery play, The Green Light , was a huge success under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Reinhard. We departed for our trip to the Black Hills on May 22 and arrived back in New England on the 25th. As the end of the year drew near the seniors became conscious of the fact that soon they would be out on their own. Therefore some looked for- ward with anticipation; others with apprehension to baccalaureate on May 25th and graduation exercises on May 2Sth. So come June 1st we will no longer be students but alumni of N. E. H. S. leaving behind happy memories, worn out school books, and strug- gling class mates. 14 CL P, oem Carol and Bobby are brides to be, Verna joined the Air Force, the world to see. Charlie and Doug, their life depends, upon the number of girl friends. Ervin, an actor, Ernest his pal, While Ervin1s at the studio, Ernest is out with his gal. Vemie, his face beaming and gleaming. Of Janet Gilbert we know he is dreaming. Margaret Ann, we're quite sure Finds Donnie Bohnoff her only cure. Eunice, quiet and truthful. Finds her leisure time quite useful. Marion at the typewriter is a speed, We know that she will be able to meet the need. Doris's time, we're not mistaken By Charlie Erickson is gladly taken. Eugene, The Nature Boy, In playing his trombone, finds much joy. Dick Gatzke, with his guitar, Is hailed as our Romeo from afar. Jimmy's B. main occupation, is flirting with girls, of almost every classification. Charley Bender, on the basketball floor, Helps our team, make the winning score. Jeanie Hanson, the cut of the deck, Is plenty mischievous and full of heck. Iola, a missionary wants to be, To help set the heathen people free. Jimmy's life would be complete With a car to drive, and a girl quite neat. Caroline's composing will bring her fame. But she will always remain the same. 15 Caroline Ballweber Roberta Wieland Orlin Erickson Lloyd Farber Joyce Jalbert Ramona Lutz Carol Wallner Joe Bohlman Melvyn Flyburg Shirley Johnson Carolyn Mealing Margaret Wegner Darryl Gatzke Lois Jones Winnoa Neider Joanne Fancher Shirley Homelvig Karen Larsen . ’ Phyllis Redetzke 17 Marie Reisenauer Donald Schorsch Officers President ..............
