FROM THE EDITOR It is with pleasure that we, the staff of the 1963 Neume, present this volume. Many preparations have gone into this book, making it, we hope, a satisfactory token to refer to in coming years. For the Seniors who are graduating the book contains a small part of the routine of this college which has shaped and prepared them for professional music positions. For the Graduate students obtaining their Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma this book brings back memories of still greater learning and perfection enabling them to perform and teach from a larger source of knowledge . For the Undergraduates this Neume symbolises the past days of the collegiate experience and the coming days of the same in which they will further themselves and mature musically. I sincerely hope all concerned find this NEUME 1963 worthy to keep and call back memories of days spent at N.E.C. Earl E. Eyrich Editor 5

The stream of music which started back in the medieval times as a slender trickle, has become in our time a roaring torrent. The symphony concert, the small orchestra, the ensembles and the different organizations, have familiarized us in- creasingly with the good and great in music. So that the Reminiscences of tomorrow may be based on the memories of yesterday and the realities of today, we present this, the Neume of 1963. 4
