CLASS OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN WALLACE GOODRICH, Dean of the Faculty MR. (lOODRICH should be congratulated by the Class upon having nearly completed twenty years of work as teacher and adminis- trator at the Conservatory, during which he has made a personal friend of every student with whom he has come into contact. In 1897, a young man just back from thorough and painstaking study of his profession abroad, he joined the faculty of this institution. In the years since then he has taught many young men and young women to value the best in organ music. Since his election as dean he has been mentor and adviser, always sympathetic and always clear-thinking, to the entire school. His little talks, as before fraternity meetings, liave betMi helpful and inspiring. In his conscientiousness regarding engagements and promises he has set an example not less useful than his teaching. The dean in some educational institutions is more or less of a police functionary, before whom the student goes with abashed face and trembling knees. None of our class has ever had any but the pleasantest relations with Mr. Goodrich, even when liable to well-merited reproof. To all of us he has personified personal kindliness, rectitude and justice. Page Eleven

CLASS OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN RALPH L. FLANDERS, General Manager HAT the quiet, efficient operation of the Conservatory is due to influences radiating from Mr. Flanders ' office is well known to all of us. When first we entered the school we were impressed by the pleasantness and considerateness of everybody connected with the manage- ment. Experience has taught us that such an atmosphere of cheerfulness and helpfulness can only be created where the general manager has a helpful, cheerful personality. This is just what all of us have found who have come into personal relations with Mr. Flanders — a readiness to extend a helping hand, to grasp the other person ' s point of view, to encourage the student to do anything that is legitimately within his ability. Twelve years ago Mr. Flanders, then a young man for so large a responsibility, was elected manager of the Conservatory. Since then he has dealt with almost countless problems, and faced many perplexities, alwaj s with a self-possession and a determination to do the right thing by everybody which are marks of the born executive. The Class in leaving certainly must thank Mr. Flanders and his associates for the favorable conditions in which our professional education has been carried out — conditions which could not exist except for a well organized and friendly management.
