Once upon a time, there was a little girl. She was very happy. She loved to run and play. While playing in a field one day, she found a seed and planted it. As she grew older, so did the seed, though it did not seem to grow as fast. Then she went away, and didn't play in the field anymore. Years passed and not-so-often she thought about the seed. She was big now, and knew many things and ways. A great deal had happened. She had become acquainted with many people - many whose faces no longer matched names . . . And travel was soon to be- come a bore. She had collected souvenirs of those different years and people, but now had trouble finding places to put them. She came home one day, and did not recognize the seed. lt too had changed. It was a matur- ing tree, bearing its first season of fruit. She thought of years before, when planting the seed she didn't know what kind it was. It had been a toy, not remembered. A small seed, rooted deep in memory, triggered great thought of other playthings discarded. In years to come, we will remember forgotten playmates and toys, and we too will remember how much we have learned from them. 124
