TO THE CLASS OF 1980 As the years you will have spent with us at New Dorp High School draw to a close, all of us are overwhelmed by a plethora of emotions. Those of us on the staff have feelings of both regret and delight. We remember with much joy the years of work and many achievements ofthe members of the Class of 1980 in all academic fields, in sports, in the arts and in service to school and community. On the other hand, we also share a feeling of sadness at your departure. lt has been rewarding to work with you, to share the good times and the bad, and now, as the Class of 1980 takes its leave of New Dorp, feelings of nostalgia and longing fill our hearts. We shall miss you all and we wish you well. You go on to a new life and a bright future. The theme of this year's Argonaut is beginnings lt is a singularly appropriate theme. While your graduation from New Dorp seems to be an end of things, it is a commencement more than a termination. lt is true that you will no longer be part of New Dorp's Spring Festivals, its dances, the homecomings, Senior Days, the Art Festivals, our football games, our basketball games, our baseball games, the Science Fairs, and the host of activities which made life at New Dorp fulfilling and enriching. But two factors which developed during your years here hold the promise of rich beginnings ahead. One of these is the education you received and the other is the friends and associations you have made. Each of you was trained to develop skills which will enable you to enrich your lives in new careers, and new associations. As you go ahead to advanced education or to rewarding jobs or to the establishment of a new life for yourself, you will look back with much fondness to your years at New Dorp and all you have learned here. The other factor, the friendships you have developed, will be a part of your consciousness for the rest of your life. New Dorp has always been a family school. Each of us cares about the other, and the love and respect we have for each other enriches our lives. You will long remember your friends here at New Dorp. Your growth as a caring, interested human being will be the most valued memory of your years at New Dorp. Please accept the best wishes of all of us in the New Dorp family. The Class of 1980 was a wonderful class and we shall miss you very much. May you go on to the successful beginnings of a bright and glorious future. ln one sense you will never leave us. You shall always be part of a wonderful memory. Abraham Baumel Principal 22 PRINCIPAL Abraham Baumel Principal
