SHAWNEE . . . in times past lndian moccasins made trails along these waters and named them Shawnee. Today Shawnee waters have become the Yellow Breeches creelc where student feet meander for swimming, boating, and fishing. Shawneetown, on the site of present-day New Cumberland, was established as a trading post in 1688. It has heard the tramp of marching feet in the early indian wars, the American Revolu- tion, andthe war between the states. Over the New Cumberland General Depot, one of the largest induction centers in the east, have trudged thousands of home-siclc G.l.'s in World War ll. The 1950 census lists the borough population as 6,300, ranlcing it the third largest town in Cumber- land County. D0 PATC 'il ll' 'M cnt ,,, l3i
