The Arts play a great role in our school. We depend on the Arts at New Castle High not only for entertainment but also for giving the students a chance to get away from their academic subjects to express their creativity. Our school was honored this year in several ways. Our Marching Band was accepted after five long years of waiting to perform at Three Rivers Stadium for halftime during a Pittsburgh Steeler Football game. New Castle Area District was also invited by The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts to gather some of the best artwork to display for a show open to the public. Our faculty, student body, and people in the community support all the activities here at New Castle High. The Arts are a second nature to us here at New Castle, and without them New Castle High School would not be the same. (1) In the industrial arts room several students work steodiy on their layouts. The J.V. team will give more kids a chance to get involved in high school baseball and, with good coaching to teach needed skills, it will make the varsity a lot stronger. The participation of many underclassmen should make the varsity a stronger team next year after they had a mediocre season this year. It was the night of celebration for all seniors and their families. It was their All-Night Party, the last night most of them would see each other for a long time. At about 12:00 a m. the band Gigilo began to play some of the best music the seniors would dance to. The dance floor was crowded and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful celebration. When your feet started to throb, there was always something to do, especially eat. Delicious food was provided to the All-Night Party by Medure's Catering and Pizza Joe's. The video of the dinner-dance was also available if you wanted to sit down and watch it. Every hour about thirty prizes were given away to seniors only. The biggest prize, a black and white TV, was won by Renee Russo. At 3:15 a m. a dance contest took place. The winners were best female; Janice Hruska; best male; Dave Moses; and best couple: Jacquie Rock and Rachelle Ryan. When 5:00 a.m. finally rolled around, the tired eyes began to show their redness, but that didn't stop the seniors from going out to breakfast at their favorite restaurant. It truly was a great celebration that will live in the minds of the seniors for a long time. (6) Miss Grybowski. Mrs. Jean Swartz taught in the english department for almost 23 years. At the time of her death she taught only two subjects. Expository Composition and English Literature. She was a very dedicated teacher to all the students she taught. She expected the most out of her sfudenfs and wanted them to strive for excellence in all their works so they would reach all their dreams and goals in life. All of the students who had the pleasure of having Mrs. Swartz as a teacher were very fortunate She had the admiration and respect of every student who had her as a teacher. This year we lost one of the very best teachers in the building, but we also lost a good friend. May we always remember her dedication and her teachings. Thank you, Mrs. Swartz. You will be missed here at New Castle High School. 150 Foculty Mrs Jean Swartz Cafeteria Staff Mrs. Charlotte Pionati Mrs. Athena Saines Mrs. Helen Wolanin Patrons Anita Allen Mr. Mrs. Larry Blews Family Michael Bollinger Anna Marie E.
