IN THE NEWS—American Post-war recovery was swift and soon the westward migration returned with even more vigor than before. During this time, the wars with the western Indians resulted in their subjugation. American wealth, land and freedom; lured the first of many waves of European immigrants to the United States. These new Americans fed the needs of the factories as America went through its industrial revolution. And organized labor appeared as a strong force in the Nation. 9

I find (he great thing in this world is not so IN THE NEWS (Lawrence County)—New Castle followed the national trends toward prosperity and industrialization. Two iron works, a cement works and a machine shop began operations and the community flourished. The increased size and wealth of the city brought about the construction of a new and modern city hall, and the opening of the city water company. And to improve the quality of education in the city; NEW CASTLE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL opened its doors to students for the first time in 1876. much where we stand as in what direction we are moving. IN THE NEWS (Lawrence County)—During this time New Castle reached its peak with the establishment of two steel mills and some of the world’s largest tin plate mills. Numerous mills, factories, and plants of all manner were set up in Lawrence County and vicinity and the resulting influx of people caused the city to swell to almost 30,000.
