For this reason we have selected the “N.C.” letter as the cover for the 1975 Pergodian. In this book we have recorded the events of the past year at New Castle High. In the cover we have attempted to capture the intangibles which unite all of Ne-Ca-Hi’s students. This cover then, represents all members of the student body both individually and as a whole. Because of spring delivery, our final deadline was February 21st. We are sorry that we can’t cover any spring events and we apologize for any typographical errors or deletions. None of these things were deliberate. We featured a special color section and the 75 Pergodian is 8 pages longer this year. The news page on 10-11 should be very interesting several years from now. A small staff of only 11 have spent many long hours putting this yearbook together. If this Yearbook is actually a good history of the year 1975, it will be appreciated today and many years from now when you look back. 16 George Stewart—American Yearbook Representative God Bless This Mess! 17 Abraham, Gregory T.: Cone. I didn’t know being beautiful could be this painful. 115 m Today I May Rise ... But I Refuse to Shine. Sometimes it seems to me that it doesn't matter what I do, that it is enough to exist, to sit somewhere, in a garden for example, watching whatever is to be seen there, the small events. At other times, I'm aware that other people, possibly a great number of other people, could be affected by what I do or fail to do, that I have a responsibility, as we all have, to make the best possible use of whatever talents I've been given, for the common good. It is not enough to sit in that garden, however restful or pleasurable it might be. The world is full of unsolved problems, situations that demand careful, reasoned and intelligent action. Jeffrey Crunkleton October 4, 1974 All in a Day’s Work 135 136 Key Club Key Club is the junior affiliate of the Kiwanis Club International. Urder their sponsor. Dr. Ray Keffer, the boys of the Key Club have lived up to their title of a service organization. Key Club is probably the most active club in the school. In an attempt to revive Veterans Day commemorations, the Key Club put on a program that included the band, the choir, the Marine Color Guard, and several guests. The program was a great success. The Key Club also held a mock election in the November general election. A new innovation of this election was that registration became voluntary, making the election more realistic. On February 15th the Key Club held a volleyball marathon. The marathon was held for the benefit of Maria Mowry, a junior that had to have extensive surgery and hospitalization. The Pergodian, because of our theme, takes interest in the last endeavor, to date, of the Key Club. During the week of March 4-9 the Key Club promoted PRIDE Week. PRIDE Week included all school organizations in some way, a talent show, band and choir concerts, and several assemblies. Its purpose was to promote pride in and at Ne-Ca-Hi. Key Club officers for 1974-1975 are: Dave Johnson. President: Patsy Piscitella, 1st Vice-President: Stan Galanski. 2nd Vice-President: Jim Mazzocca, Secretary; and Gary Paiano, Treasurer. Dr. Raymond Keffer. Advisor One of the most active clubs at New Castle High is the American Field Service Club. Among the many successful activities of the AFS club this year were the Halloween Party, the Christmas Dinner, and the AFS Fund Drive. This club is very important to the school and the hard work put in by this club is appreciated by everyone. Mrs. Dorothy Poleno, Advisor; Santi Songermsawas, Exchange Student. Central Barber Shop Rocky’s Market Valentines Restaurant I remember the yearbook was a big hit with the people that I showed it to here. They had never seen anything like it before. So if anyone criticizes the good old Pergodian just remember that someone thinks it is quite good. You realize once you have left what a great memory bank it is, with all the pictures plus the personal messages (yours was “OK coogootz”). And the graduation pictures were also quite a thing.” Jeremy Clampett New Castle’s AFS Exchange Student from the Republic of South Africa during the 1973-1974 school year, in a letter to Mr. Pat Panella, dtd. January 28,1975.
