There are no words in a teenager’s language that bring about such a thrill than being able to say, “I’m a senior!” Many of us are at the end of our formal education. We are the people whom younger ones must depend on. We are the citizens of tomorrow. Before we leave school, though, let’s think back to the many wonderful and exciting experiences we shared with each other. September September is a month of “firsts.” The first day of school, the first pep meeting, the first football game, and the first cross country meet. The biggest “first,” though, was that it was the first month of our senior year. October Homecoming was the outstanding event of this autumn month. Our queen was Patty Lock-ley. She represented us at the parade, football game, and at the highlight of the week, the I Iomecoming Dance. November The Senior Play, “Kind Lady” kept a suspenseful audience in its grip as it weaved a wonderful mystery. The Pep Club dinner and dance paid homage to the many athletes of Ne-Ca-Hi, and what a delicious turkey dinner we had in the cafeteria for our Thanksgiving meal. December Can anyone ever forget the turmoil of evaluation? Visiting teachers paraded in and out of rooms at all times of the day. But, even after the inconvenience, we were proud of Ne-Ca-Hi’s rating. The first few basketball games gave us an inclination of forthcoming victories. The large Christmas tree at the Senior Dance proved to be equal to Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree in New York as far as the “Lions” were concerned. January Grunts and groans from wrestling fans became common sounds. Our third report card hinted that we’d better study if we wanted to wear a tassled cap. February The “Diary of Anne Frank” amazed the city of New Castle. This Broadway hit turned out to be the biggest play in the last twelve years at Ne-Ca-Hi. A complete sell-out crowd proved that teenagers can work on something serious and make it a success. March Oh, how we laughed at our faculty basketball game. The men teachers seemed to play in earnest but somehow lost to the junior high faculty. April Preparations for the all-night party were in full swing with our parents being the masterminds behind it all. “Kissin’ Cousin,” the Student Council play, kept us in stitches. The juniors excited us with their plans for the Junior-Senior Prom. May With the Senior Class well represented, the dance was a huge success. What a thrilling sensation to receive our cap and gown. Baccalaureate was very moving and seemed a fitting end to our twelve years. Class Day and the picnic, although fun, brought tears to our eyes. June Dinner Dance and Commencement. The two happiest and yet saddest occasions of our senior year. Adjectives can’t be found to describe these two events. It’s all over, and we have now entered the world as adults. F.ven though we’re leaving, we can think how these memorable experiences will enrich our future. 30
