Business Students Begin Occupations Earl Dictation taken with earphones provides for individual learning. Electronic Shorthand Lnb Very Efficient A class in personal typing and a vocational business office program were the two major changes in the business curriculum this year. The non-credit personal typing classes met four modules a week for those students who wanted to learn proper rules for typing. The new vocational business program entitled the senior trainees to leave school after lunch to work at various oiiice jobs within the city. A modern electronics shorthand lab also was added. Approximately 30 students were involved in each lab. Four tapes could be played at one time at various speeds allowing each student to choose the proper speed for his dictation. r Samilla Hagee prepares to do practice exercises. Students Find New Cultures In Languages Four years of Spanish, French, and Latin, and two years of Russian head- lined the Language Department for this year. Steps also were taken to turn the lab room into a resource center Where students were able to study their language with taped and text materials. A field trip to see Fiddler On the Roof' at Clowes Hall was taken by Russian Students, while French stu- dents enjoyed a savory meal at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carboneau. Spanish and Latin classes again had their annual banquets with many as- sortments of delicious foods. Visitors from over 20 countries ex- plained their customs during Foreign Student Day in April. Music Groups Make Public Appearances The marching band gives a lively performance at half-time show. First place winner Karen Albion practices for district contest. 30 Public performances played an im- portant role in the music program this year. Chorale, the select vocal group, exhibited enthusiasm and talent in presenting the Chrisunas convocation and a spring musical. The largest marching band in Chrysler's history, with 83 members, entertained at half- time during football and basketball games and appeared at I.U. Band Day and the Ball State Homecoming Pa- rade last fall. Music theory was a required sub- ject for those students majoring in music. Others who wanted to build an appreciation for good music en- rolled in Girls, Concert Choir. Al- though orchestra was small, it was composed of a devoted group which learned the basic music fundamentals in orchestral form. i Lectures help music theory student Karen New understand its complexities.
