By adding a little fire Becky Stamper produces a new substance. Biology students probe into the unknown by utilizing lab time. Open Lab Great Value To Scientists The scientific theory of an open mind was even used in the scheduling of science classrooms this year. An open lab was established where biol- ogy, chemistry, or physics students could prepare their lab exercises in the same room at any time of day. The teachers shared in the supervision, helping students from all sciences with their labs. Biology and chemistry lectures were presented exclusively over a closed circuit TV to approximately 90 students at one time. The old English store room was converted into an area Where students participated in small group discus- - sions. Another room, the biology lab, was also set aside as a new area for small groups. Fundamentals of physics are discovered by Ginny Morris and Doug Sloan.

I I Using answers on the lab door, Scott Witt and Wayne Tague correct mistakes. A study in concentration, Montey Holloway is absorbed in Trigonometry. Innovations Modernize Math N ew Closed Circnit Television Ceeinerns Shaw Ancient Principles Geometry, technical math, senior math, and algebra were all offered to students this year. The geometry course provided sophomores with a world of axioms, theorems, and geo- metric figures as their first high school math course. Modem algebra was offered to juniors who liked being challenged with logarithms and slide rules. Seniors who elected to take trigonometiy or senior math explored imaginary numbers and trig functions. Technical math was open to anyone who had successfully completed one year of mathematics and was particu- larly helpful to students in practical arts classes. This year, sophomores learned ge- ometric fundamentals in large group lectures over closed circuit television. Small group meetings also were held each week as were lab sessions so that students could obtain more individual help where needed. Attentive listening and understanding are necessities in Algebra.

Students Find New Cultures In Languages Four years of Spanish, French, and Latin, and two years of Russian head- lined the Language Department for this year. Steps also were taken to turn the lab room into a resource center Where students were able to study their language with taped and text materials. A field trip to see Fiddler On the Roof' at Clowes Hall was taken by Russian Students, while French stu- dents enjoyed a savory meal at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carboneau. Spanish and Latin classes again had their annual banquets with many as- sortments of delicious foods. Visitors from over 20 countries ex- plained their customs during Foreign Student Day in April.
