Vslith the remains of the Muncie Bearcats in a casket before our Trojan warriors, the student body celebrated its victory over rival Muncie, the first since l95l. Routine days were broken into by events which we'll remember for many years. Spe- cial activities uppermost in our memories are the Dr. Crane and Pat O'Connor convos, Foreign Student Day, the pep session to celebrate our triumph over the Muncie Bearcats, and outstanding clfapel programs. Brightening our usual routine were the ar- rival ofthe Phoenix on Fridaysg field trips: records in music classes: filmsg lab days in home ec, physics, and chemistryg and driving day when the driver training stu- dents tried out new techniques. Varied classroom activity not only helped to make our school days pleasant but also brought smiles to our faces as we received friendly greetings and understanding from our friends, teachers, and classmates. Devotional programs inspired us each week and gave us a better outlook cn life. Bob Daggy, Kathy Meece, and Harold Cowan, radio students, helped prepare these programs. Smiling happily Margie Turner, Industrial Fair Queen, accepts the IOSQS and crown from Ernest Cuyer as attendants Marilyn Shockley and Maxine Benson watch excitedly.

Hey, shoe shine girl, make them glow? At shoe shine booths scattered throughout the business area, SunShine girls added their collections to the drive for the gym. Buy a brick. Build our gym quick. Give now-Gym Now. Brilliant banners, stickers for cars, and bulging Gym-Now col- lection boxes proved to the community that we meant what we said. Gym-Now echoed all through the halls ot Nl-l.S. as each stu- dent and teacher dug just a little bit deeper in his pocket to Give till it hurts. This spring we began to see the results ot our dreams. Blueprints of the school and gym were displayed in the hall, and the newspaper was filled with stories about building contracts and the sale ot stocks. While looking at a muddy lot, it was hard tor us to realize that this year's sophomores would spend their senior year in the new three million dollar high school. ln February, however, huge bulldozers ar- rived and excavation began. Foundations were poured, and we knew our new build- ings would soon be a reality. Presenting our donation of 52,000 to the Gym-Now com- mittee is our Trojan Mascot who represented the entire school body at the community rally last spring. 1 Vxfash your car mister? Teachers and students worked to gether at car washes throughout the city which helped to roll in the dollars for the Gym Now campaign
