Ilf'f1l1'QIl ACTIVITIES PROVIDE Volley ball was iust one of the many activi- ties that gym classes offered throughout the year. Gym class is a half credit subject and is required for two years unless a student has a doctor's permit. Some of the activities in which they participate are basketball, softball, square dancing, marching practice, and calis- thenics. Drawing house plans and studying color charts are iust a few of the activities planned in home decoration class. At the right Judy Day and Grace Crowley are trying to help Chuck Kalies decide which wall paper would look best with the curtains. Home decoration is taught by Mrs. Eunice Davisson and Mrs. Valaire Brosey. Jerry Swayzee, Jerry Harry, and Mrs. Mil- dred Fleet, junior class sponsor, are discussing plans forthe annual Junior-Senior prom which is held in May each year. By paying iunior class dues each student is eligible to attend the prom which is annually their main class event.

INTERESTS FOR EVERYON E Don Taylor, Richard Cox, Bill Catron, Jewell Wilson, Lloyd Koger, and 'Nayman Allen are a few of the students who take English R to im- prove their reading ability. Each student takes a test divided into three parts: vocabulary, comprehension, and speed and accuracy, then he knows iust how to improve his techniques. High school printing students receive train- ing which enables them io obtain positions in industry. One phase of this work is operating the Iinotype. Here Paul Ray, a iunior, is set- ting copy for the weekly edition of the PHOENIX. New Castle is one of the few Indi- ana high schools which has a print shop that is adequate to print the school paper. Helping to write high school news and stories for the Courier-Times and the News Republican are Mary Lois Haynes, Judy Ballard, Margaret Anne Lane, Nancy Gregory, and Jo Young. Some students took this course as Journalism ll class and others were volunteer reporters. Other volunteers went to the grade schools once each week for their news. Tu enry-.961 en
