Third Row: Tim Mills, Bill MacKay, John McDiarmid. RIFLE CLUB Underneath New Canaan High School, future hunters and sports- men fire their 22.'s at a target fifty feet away. Mr. Howard sees to it that the bullets find their proper destination and also arranges mat- ches for marksmanship medals. SQ UASH When civilians casually asked Squash Club members, How's the squash coming along? , it was plain to see that most of them thought the organization to be a branch of the New Canaan Garden Center. However, although serving in a non-agricultural capacity, the club did plant seeds of friendly sport among duffers. Through the kindness of the New Canaan Coun- try Club, meetings were held at an enclosed court on Smith Ridge. The organization has succeeded in innovating a new sport which combines co-ordination, skill, and a great deal of fun. People asked who wrapped the crepe paper around the goal posts of the home games. They wanted to know how the monster posters sup- porting the Rams were macle. Then, along came a girl who seemed to know all the an- swers. She explained that the Pep Club meets with Miss Ames and decides how school spirit can best be set on fire. The organization ar- ranges for spectator buses to go to athletic con- tests and composes signs and .posters of all shapes to adorn bleak corridors. She revealed that the Peppers iust came into being this past year. The girl was so enthusiastic about every- thing that people wondered why there are not more rooters like her. SLIDE RULE CLUB Practically all of them have pretty good slide rules, reports Mr. Littlefield. Meeting afternoons in the library, the members of the Slide Rule Club are having great fun learning how to use and read their slide rules. Mr. Little- field plans to teach his eager students boolean algebra before the end of the year, and enthu- siastic sliderulers agree that one must be very intelligent to meet the challenge of this advan- ced phase of math. Practice makes perfect, claims Miss Lord, so during free periods the students help her. Thus, they fa- miliarize themselves with the books and learn the basic fundamentals of the trained librarian's specialized job.

AUDIO-VISUAL CLUB What would we do without the A-V Squad? They can run movie proiectors and tape re- corders, and they are indispensable backstage. Robert VanDerheyden is the master technician, and his band of electricians are a wonderful help all over the school. ATOMIC PHYSlCS CLUB Under the nuclear eye of Mr. S. Twardy, a group of six boys, known as the Atomic-Physics Club, meets two mornings per week in pre-dawn sessions. The organization's prime function is to give boys a better understanding of its name- sake, atomic-physics. Extra work, the students find, helps them in regular physics classes. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is a chance for advanced placement in college as a result of their study. Kneeling: Bob VanDerheyden.
