SLIDE RULE CLUB Practically all of them have pretty good slide rules, reports Mr. Littlefield. Meeting afternoons in the library, the members of the Slide Rule Club are having great fun learning how to use and read their slide rules. Mr. Little- field plans to teach his eager students boolean algebra before the end of the year, and enthu- siastic sliderulers agree that one must be very intelligent to meet the challenge of this advan- ced phase of math. Left to Right: Art Hahn, Ste- phen Mitchell, David Speltz, Stephen Ivan, Dennis Cribby, Pat Foster, Pat Bettridge, Miss Lord, Don Hayden, Bob Bach, Margot Eberman, Barbara Vitti, Pat Duff, Christine Stur- ges, Judy Naill. 118 Jim Morrison, Mr. Littlefield, Tom Hohn, George Briechle, Dave Dapis, Bob Brigham, Bob Baker. l l STUDENT LIBRARIANS Learning to use the Dewey Decimal System isn't easy, but the student librarians must be eager and receptive, for they have no difficulty finding their way around in any library. Practice makes perfect, claims Miss Lord, so during free periods the students help her. Thus, they fa- miliarize themselves with the books and learn the basic fundamentals of the trained librarian's specialized job.

CHEF'S CLUB Aspirants to the almost extinct art of masculine cooking are banding together, this year, in the Chef's Club. On the appoint- ed days ovens blaze in the Home Economics department at 7:30 a.m. Advising the chefs is Mrs. Dixon, who makes sure the poached eggs find their way from pan to plate without first greeting the floor. The boys in the organization are not without responsibilities. The complete set- ting of the table - in a some- what distinct style - and the cleaning of dishes are highlights of the meetings. The supreme test is the consumption of food by the chefs themselves. Kneeling: Pat O'Neill, Jim Gould. Standing: Mrs. Dixon, Geoffrey Stelling, Dick Liberatore, Adam Ross, Dave Chase, Bob Montgomery. 5 fwsmaas f. 1- f H... , ww f . 'i,'gL1ji gifs 1. ,u A ' 4 1 7 N F g I .. .f is . Mr. Lewis, the club sponsor, directs his young ac- tors in acting techniques, and he plans visits to professional productions so the club mem- bers may get hints. DEBATING Someone jumps and says, I have the floor. Remarkable brilliancy in speech is the weapon of Mr. Reid's debators. During afternoon hours, these peaceable negotiators divide themselves into teams, and the battle begins. The fastest, cleverest talkers win. At times, New Canaan debators are challenged to a duel with another town, giving them a chance to prove their skill. Kneeling, Left to Right: Kay Davis, Sandy Conner, Linda Terana, Gail Johnson, Barbara Rol- lin, Marty Drum, Sue Davis. Standing: Mr. Lewis, Pat Foster, Lynn Korbel, Sharon Hayden, Eileen Bak, Pam McClure, Cynthia Zimkus, Andrea Romako, Dick Liberatore.

Mr. Howard sees to it that the bullets find their proper destination and also arranges mat- ches for marksmanship medals. SQ UASH When civilians casually asked Squash Club members, How's the squash coming along? , it was plain to see that most of them thought the organization to be a branch of the New Canaan Garden Center. However, although serving in a non-agricultural capacity, the club did plant seeds of friendly sport among duffers. Through the kindness of the New Canaan Coun- try Club, meetings were held at an enclosed court on Smith Ridge. The organization has succeeded in innovating a new sport which combines co-ordination, skill, and a great deal of fun. Kneeling, Left to Right: Don Ellis, Dick Kenyon, Pat Derrig, Joe Boccuzzi, Chuck Davis. Standing, Left to Right: Dennis Leuders, Tim Bryant, Ted Schmidt, Tom Kardos, Steve Zimmerman, Mr. Howard. People asked who wrapped the crepe paper around the goal posts of the home games. They wanted to know how the monster posters sup- porting the Rams were macle. Then, along came a girl who seemed to know all the an- swers. She explained that the Pep Club meets with Miss Ames and decides how school spirit can best be set on fire. The organization ar- ranges for spectator buses to go to athletic con- tests and composes signs and .posters of all shapes to adorn bleak corridors. She revealed that the Peppers iust came into being this past year. The girl was so enthusiastic about every- thing that people wondered why there are not more rooters like her.
