Mr. Fabry's painters and sketchers have been joined by the sculp- tors under Mr. Jacobson and this year by the interesting de- sign course under Mrs. Hall. The whole department was iumping up and down for weeks after the moulding, sketching, and snipping artists of NCHS walked off with 15 gold keys and 'I6 place certifi- cates in the 1959 Scholastic Art Award Contest. Deane Lawrence and Pam Chatter- ton, with 4 and 9 gold keys respectively, are eligible for art scholarships.

4' What FUN! DESIGN The imaginative members of the design classes created intricate and symbolic structures, which ran the gamut from mobiles to complex pa- per shapes. Much of their handiwork graced the interiors of our school, producing strange and varied com- ments as to their worth, but adding greatly to the esthetic stimulation of students. Directed by Mrs. Hall, each clbss met three times a week. The basic purpose of the class was to provide artistic aspirants with a means of ex- pression through art form. gl sv. CERAMICS The ceramics and sculpturing classes made not only pots and bowls, but also decorative panels, mosaic designs, and plaster sculp- ture. Mr. Jacobson stressed organic forms and conveyed his ideas through bits and pieces of nature which he brought into class. Once they realized that techniques must be perfect, the classes faced the problem of thinking in three dimen- sions. Through built-up and cut-out shapes, new ideas took form. xfef L 4- cg.:
