P Dandy, Mohammed FOREIGN STUDENTS The 10,000 miles that span the distance between the Middle East and the United States seemed to shrink as Dandy Yaffe of Israel and Mohammed Hamadein of the Sudan came to New Canaan as Herald- Tribune foreign students. During their two-week stay in January, Dandy lived with the Whiteford fam- ily, while Mohammed made his home with the Warnks. Classes concerned with international relations acquired a new dimension as Dandy and Mo- hammed answered countless ques- tions about their native countries. In addition to becoming a part of an American school-system, both students skated for the first time, watched basketball and hockey games, and talked endlessly with people at parties, teas, and lunch- eons. Those who met Dandy and Mohammed were soon impressed by their warmth and vitality. When the two left on the 17th of January, an emptiness was felt not only by their host families but also by their many other friends who had come to know them. Youth Forum: Andy, Chip, Dave, Mohammed, Dandy, Rose Michael lNetherlandsl Anne CDenmarkj and Jill CNew Zealandj

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Scholarship, leadership, service, and character . . . these qualities were a pre- requisite for membership in this organiza- tion. The New Canaan branch of the Na- wvrfff- tional Honor Society, advised by Mr. Howard, is now twenty-four strong. The main activity of the Honor Society has been tutoring. Other activities have in- cluded ushering, serving as guides during Open House, and, ot course, the annual banquet for induction of new members. A bit of sage advice.

RADIO CLUB This year's radio club provided an out- let for the energies ofa number of electronic- ally-minded hams. Under the guidance of Mr. Pelletier KWTLZCJ, a ham since 1939, they often held code practice and exchanged news and technical data among themselves. The three general license holders are Dave Austin CKT EHQJ, Tom Evans KKT IJFJ, and Dave Pomfret CKTDLMJ. .lim Thornblade CWTAABI holds a technician class license, and Bill Kings- bury CKNT IWTJ and Kaspar Liepins KKNT KAVJ hold novice licenses. AUDIO-VISUAL SQUAD The Audio-Visual squad, directed by Mr. Lind, runs electronic equipment for the teach- ers and is also in charge of the lighting, sound, and technical equipment in the audi- torium. Under the squad's able supervision, stereophonic sound was effectively used for the first time during the iunior play. To be on the squad, one must have an A. V. card, which is acquired by passing an examination. The holder is then authorized to operate the school's specialized equip- ment.
