After one week of prac- tice, Coach Murphy cut the squad down to twenty-two hardy mem- bers. The team battled for three wins and suffered four losses. The season culminated with a five-one triumph over Greenwich, one of the finest teams in the area. CROSS COUNTRY In its first year of formal com- petition, New Canaan's Cross Country team placed fifth in state competition and seventh at the County Meet. We started the seo- son by defeating Roger Ludlow, but unfortunately we dropped the next five meets to Danbury, Fair- field Prep, Stamford, Norwalk, and Greenwich. The meets were enlivened by occasional sallies into Norwalk fgood grief, where's the finish line?J. 101 fs .4 N it Dick

The team played a total of twenty-one games, finishing with a ten and eleven record. Although we had a losing season, we scored 1,119 points for a 53 points per game average. Ironic- ally, our total point output exceeded the number of points which were scored against us during the entire season. Leading Coach Murphy's hoopsters in individual scoring was Co-captain Graham Corr with 370 points. This makes him the fourth highest scorer in the history of New Canaan basketball. The scoring was well distributed among the team this year. Fol- lowing Graham were Co-captain Steve Scott with 156, Paul Dauk with 141, and Pete Deane with 122. The other members scored well also. Chris Chase added 56, Monte Brooks 27, Skip Haymond 22, Art Russo 19, Bill Ford 11, Dave Jones 9, and Pete DiVenere 6. The iunior varsity team, coached by Mr. Duguid, should form a solid nucleus of next year's team. J.V.
