FOOTBALL SCOREBOARD New Canaan Fox Lane .... .. 7 New Canaan Westport .... .. 0 New Canaan Norwalk .... .. 6 New Canaan St. Mary's ....... .. 0 New Canaan Andrew Ward .... .. 6 New Canaan Darien ........... ..... 'I 4 FOOTBALL Onward, New Canaan, fight to the end. These words from our school fight-song best express the spirit of our hard- playing football team. Pitted against much larger foes, due to our being placed in the Class B league, New Canaan's spirited squad moved out on the field and didn't stop fight- ing until the final gun. As testimony to its never-say-die attitude, the team rose on four out of six occasions to trounce its formidable opposition. After a vigorous pre-season workout, hopes and expec- tations were high as we went into our first game at Mt. Kisko. Unhappily this nip-and-tuck battle was destined to be our first loss, as well. Our next match proved to be a more successful venture Varsity Football. First Row, Left to Right: Dave Talmage, Danny Vitti, Chris Albright, Dave Elders, Lennie Smith, Skip Raymond, Amos Musilli, Bob Rohner. Second Row: Pete Davidson, Bill Ford, Bill Keller, Lewis Paglialungo, Joe Fasano, Pete Deane, Paul Dauk, Peter Smith, John Pickering, Buzz Stewart, Lennie Harris. Third as we triumphed over Westport, 20-0. With this smashing victory in our pockets, we went on to trample Norwalk, 16-6, massacre St. Mary's, 42-0, and topple Andrew Ward, 'I2-6. The student body turned out almost to the man to view our final contest, the annual Darien-New Canaan skirmish. It was a pitched battle all the way, New Canaan fending off its opponent's onslaughts valiantly and threatening its arch-rival's goal time and time again. However, our team went down in defeat. Under the able guidance of Coach Joe Sikorski and co-captained by Pete Deane and Joe Fasano, our squad showed great drive and fighting spirit which should set a precedent for next year's team. Row: Coach Borgman, Dave Chase, Kent Barker, .lim Humphries, Gary Buckley, Brion Harvard, Pete DiVenere, Tom Wood, John Warnk, Kirk Smith, Bill Averett, Henry Andronaco, Paul Barth, Coach Sikorski.

CHEERLEADING Captained by Judy Pickering, the ten regular and two substitute cheerleaders vig- orously cheered us through this year's foot- ball and basketball season. Under the super- vision of Miss Murphy and Miss Hereford, they lumped, stamped, and shouted until they were hoarse. Practice sessions were held each day during the football season and twice a week during the basketball season. The supple ac- robats were chosen by first trying out before Miss Murphy and the cheerleaders from the previous year, and then before a body of teachers, who made the final eliminations.
