.Q baked fiona Mr. Smith. That name, the direct address and reference of many a high-school student and citizen of New Buffalo for the past six years, is the Nestor of New Buffalo High School. ' A Pennsylvanian by birth, Mr. Smith, as pictured above, has held the torches of hard work and study coupled with perseverance and self-reliance high, and these qualities have been the ideals of his New Buffalo students. Mr. Smith's life has been enriched by his early teaching years in the rugged, mountain country of Kentucky. lt was, as Mr. Smith says, The most interesting experience l've ever had. Life has not been of Riley for Mr. Smith, but he has weathered all squalls and storms with a skipper's skill. After a half-century of dedication to a worthy profession, six years of them at New Buffalo, Mr. Smith has more than deserved the dedication of his New Buffalo High School. 4

SCHOOL BOARD STUDIES PLANS FOR NEW SCHOOL Supt. Reyher, Mrs. Trepany, Mr. Ghareeb Mr. Russell, Mr. Shimkus, Mrs. Raz, Mr. Zientarski, Mr. Kelderhouse. President Russell presides over a jovial group. You have often heard the remark, It's board policy. Who is this board ? It is an elected committee of responsible, leading Citizens who direct the com- munity's education program. Composed of housewife, mechanic, lawyer, patrolman, businessman, and electrician, the school board enacted several significant issues for 1961--1962, including a wage increase for teachers and active consideration of a new high school to balance space and increasing school enrollment. 6
