Another year at New Buffalo might be just the same as 1956-1957, but to each of us there is at least one significant occasion which will disting- uish it from all the others. If it begins or if it ends our career at New Buffalo, we will remember it as a year of anticipation, doubts, and expectations. Today, the Buffalodian may serve only to remind you of the past school year. However, it will serve its main purpose, when at some time in the future, after dreams have become realities, it will present to the reader memories of almost forgotten events. The theme, Modern Arts, is chosen with the realization that with every new horizon, modern ideas and inventions will be born. We hope that the pictures and words of this volume will bring to you pleasant memories and happiness in the years to come. 3 x - ' We, the Class of 1957, dedicate this annual to the memories of Dennis Ondrus and Joe Mo- tycka. Thoughts of them bring to our minds the many happy timesgwe had together. We only regret that they are not with us now. Their friendliness, cheerfulness, and helpful- ness made them liked by everyone. 3 HECK'-5 - HELEN BANEY College B.s., fffchigafl High School Principal C2,'5g15'g'gm' stare Universitv M,A B.S. western Michigan College 5 - ' M.A. University o Michigan Western Michigan B.S. This year the Senior Band received a First Division Rating in the annual Marching Festival held at Benton Harbor. On March lst the Senior Band received a First Division Rating at the Band and Orchestra Festival held at White Pigeon. The number of freshmen was gratifying because with- out experience, winning teams are almost impossible as was evident in the total results. The 1956 Bisons started the season with three regulars - Jack Buckler, Ross Brame, and John Calnin, and fortified ,with six returningvlettermen. 61 Dick Dick Damon Bottles Kraig Josunhans Coach Sfafinski John John Calnin Mad Nunn smug, Joe .lack Bucklor Ilan Bruno Jn Brychh 62 dl--- . 14-- Q- .l-4f-ll Kraig Josenhans, Ronnie Oselka, Gary Foucek, Jack Buckler, John Calnin, ,Coach Menchinger, Bill Barbee, Dick Damore, Bill Cummings, Keith Wilkie, Bill Dohner, Tom Corwin, Mgr. The Bisons of '56 and '57 were beset by several handicaps this season. Suffering from inexperience, lack of height, and a rash of injuries, they had a difficult time in building a smooth working unit. Despite these handicaps the boys worked very hard all season and were a much improved ball club at the close of the schedule. John Calnin, Dick Damore, Jack Buckler, Bill Barbee, and Bill Dohner carried most of the load with help comming from Bill Cummings, Kieth Wilkie, and Ron Oselka. Barbee and Dohner will be back for another season and will try to fill the shoes of leading scorers Calnin and Damore, and the top rebounding of Buckler. With a promising crop of freshmen and sophomores coming up from the reserves, the prospects for improved seasons seem much brighter in the coming years. Two victories were recorded over Edwardsburg and one each over Berrien Springs and Coloma. The Bisonettes have a perfect home-floor record. Varsity letter winners this season include: Forwards,'Sharon Sandera', Barbara Stick, Barbara Wolnik and June Sanderag Guards, Ruth Kliss, Judy Watson, Rachel Hamley, Mary Shubert, Donna Charvat and Carol Konvalinka. The highlight of the season was an impressive 78 to 76 victory over the Berrien Springs Shamrockettes. This was the Shamrockettes' only loss of the season. Sharon Sandera set a new school scoring record for the girls in this game as she scored a total of 51 points on 20 field goals and 11 straight free throws. The Bisonettes will be looking forward to another season next year as not a single player will be lost through graduation. 69 Left to right: Bill Dohner, Bill Cummings, Jack Buckler, John Calnin, Joe Brychta, Keith Wilkie, Ross Brame. The track team for the second time in three years, reigned as Big Nine Conference Kings. Team balance and depth in many eve nts paid off for the'Bisons at the Conference Meet at Niles. After scoring well in the hurdles, dashes, high jump, and shot put, the 880 relay team clinched the title by winning their event in one of the finest races of the after- noon. This team was composed of Bill Dohn er, Bill Cummings, John Calnin, and Jack Glossinger. Jack Buckler and Joe Brychta were the other main point getters for the Bisons. In the State wide competition, John Cal nin placed second in the Class C Quarter Mile at Ann Arbor. Losing only one man from this squad sets the Bisons up as the team to beat for this year's Conference Crown. 70 Getting underway with a turnout of twelve boys, the Golf Team began its first year with a regular schedule and a home course. Through the courtesy of Chikaming Country Club, we were able to hold regular practice and have a home course for our matches. The season included two matches with Edwardsburg, two with Three Oaks, and the regional meet at Grand Rapids. The four boys who made the Grand Rapids trip were Steve Palen, John Reed, Mike Brennan, and Gary Foucek. Although the scores were high. and the weather bad, the big match was good experience for these boys, three of whom will be back for two or three more seasons. 71 i Y 72 W Roy Peters Custodian Art Rosenbaum Homer Asch Custodian Custodian Ari Herrbach Mechanic C Mrs. Hamilton Mrs. Farina Edna Zander School Secretary Nurse School Secretary 74 Basketball Game Sept. 4 Sept. 14 Sept. 21 Sept. 28 Sept. 28 Sept. 29 Oct. 5 Oct. 10 Oct. 19 Oct. 24 Oct. 25-26 Oct. 31 Nov. 1 Nov. 2 Nov. 20 Nov. 23-24 Nov. 30 Dec. 4 Dec. 7 Dec. 8 Dec. 11 Dec. 14.
