In today's world, lust as a nation can not isolate itself from the other countries, so also an individual is obligated to learn about foreign lands and peoples. Progress in communication and transportation has drawn people of all countries closer together, and has made extensive foreign travel possible. Such travel enables us to understand better the world in which we live. A study of foreign languages prepares the student for the role he must play as a citizen of the world. Not only does he learn the language of the foreign country, but he also gains knowledge and understanding of its culture, cus- toms, literature, and history.
