DAVID KUTLIROFF Department Head Linen to what I think, not what I say. The major aim ot the Science Department is to en- courage the student to employ deductive reasoning in the solving of problems. Through application ot the basic principles of the science, be it biology, chemistry, or physics, the student solves problems and attempts to discover new ideas. This process of logical reasoning will be useful to the student throughout his college career and the rest of his life. Another aim ot the Science Depart- I ment is to instill in the student a curiosity about the world around him. The sciences are not limited to iust college- bound students, however. Courses in general biology and general chemistry are designed to give the non-college- bound student a glimpse into science as- well as to develop his ability to make and record observations and to work precisely in the laboratory. 'H ow JOAN BORNHEIMER would you like to .... ? gf FRAN K MUMBER Department Head Quatschkopf. In today's world, lust as a nation can not isolate itself from the other countries, so also an individual is obligated to learn about foreign lands and peoples. Progress in communication and transportation has drawn people of all countries closer together, and has made extensive foreign travel possible. Such travel enables us to understand better the world in which we live. A study of foreign languages prepares the student for the role he must play as a citizen of the world. Not only does he learn the language of the foreign country, but he also gains knowledge and understanding of its culture, cus- toms, literature, and history.
