THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY These students have realized that the quest for the light of knowledge , demands a wise use of intellect, character, service, and leadership. To them is given the reward of membership in the National Honor Society. Since the establishment of the New Britain Chapter of the Honor Society in 1938, approximately one thousand N.B.H.S. students have been accepted as members. 138

QUILL AND SCROLL Quill and Scroll, International Honor Society for high school journalists has nine members on the Red and Gold Review staff. The Red and Gold Review is proud of its seven year membership in this society and of its members.who have achieved this recognition. Membership depends on the students entire school record. A candidate must be in the upper third of the junior or senior classg he must have demonstrated superior jour- nalistic abilityg and he must be endorsed by his staff adviser and approved by the Executive Secretary of the Quill and Scroll. Through surveys this group reports trends in school publications and offers sugges- tions for their improvement. A critical service is furnished and contests are sponsored with awards for literary excellence. 140
