The Social Science Department Keeps Apace With the Times American History is presented so that the study of our nations' heritage is as vital, chai- lenging, and effective as possible. Knowledge and skills are part of the intellectual equipment of the educated mind. History provides one of the best opportunities for students to practice and gain increasing mastery of these essential intel- lectual tools. Understanding of the past can make the present intelligible. Students will seek in the history of their country a background which can be relevant to America today. Civics classes gave the students the opportunity to become acquainted with their government and its backbone - the constitution.
