’68 PINE CONE New Boston High School New Boston, Texas i LOYALTY + ENTHUSIASM = SCHOOL SPIRIT Well fight, fight fpr old New Boston, Fight to the end, When we re together, We are sure to win We'll fight, Fight for old New Boston From goal to goal. Win or Lose, we love you. Maroon and Gold, LOYALTY! Loyalty to our school is something which we must possess if we are to have the best school possible. We have had loyalty in the past. We have loyalty now. We will strive to keep up the tradition. Yes, we will fight for old New Boston!” ENTHUSIASM! The foundation of any group is built upon a very important pillar--enthusiasm. When we are enthused in our work, we will strive to do our very best. We will fight to the end to make our school a better one. SCHOOL SPIRIT! Our school song displays the very essence of school spirit. School spirit is that one thing upon which a school is founded. A combina- tion of loyalty and enthusiasm adds up to a great school spirit. We have truly attained school spirit when we honestly desire that our school be the best in every category, whether it be academic or ath- letic, musical or literary, or whatever. Win or lose, we love you should be the attitude of .all. We, the annual staff hereby dedicate ourselves to the building of school spirit. If, in any way, we have inspired a little loyalty or enthusiasm in a student, then we have fulfilled our purpose. The 1968 PINE CONE keeps pace with New Boston High—building school spirit to make our school a better one for our students and our faculty. 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS Activities -- - - -- --- -- -- ---------------4 Administration------------------------- -----31 Sophomores ----------------------------- ---38 Juniors--------------------------------------44 Seniors------------------------------------ 49 Favorites----------------------------------- 61 Athletics------------------------------------68 Organizations --- - - --------------------- 77 Junior High --- - -- - -- --------------- 99 Oakview School---------------------------- 116 Crestview School--------------------------- 124 Advertisers------------------------------ 139 FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL SDMI BUS NOfl,; r.r,_lV . They are also loyal and enthusiastic fans at the athletic events, band concerts, and pro- grams. Their presence is felt and appreciated by the student body of New Boston High School. JEFF ADDISON President JAMES T, WHEELER Vice-President PATRICK JONES Secretary WELDON McCORD Super in t end ent - of-Sch ool s ROBERT EUBANK 32 JAMES HARBOR EUGENE PETERSON BILLY BOB BIRDWELL SUPERINTENDENT WELDON McCORD Mr. Weldon McCord, Superintendent of Schools, is an example of SCHOOL SPIRIT. His interest and enthusiasm started when he was a coach in New Boston High School and has continued. He is one of the most faithful fans; for wherever there is a football or a basketball game, a track meet or a baseball game, Mr, Mc- Cord is there encouraging the boys on to victory. DORIS BROWN - Secretary HUBERT SIMPSON PRINCIPAL Our principal, Mr. Hubert Simpson, is a man whom all students at NBHS respect and admire. He is strict in his ways and yet gentle in his love for and devotion to the New Boston students and New Boston High School. He has and will probably continue to have that stem and knowing stare that has so often scaled beginning sophomores. Indeed, Mr. Simpson deserves much praise for the work he has done and will continue to do at NBHS. He is always willing to do anything in his power to help a student or to help a student help himself. Because of his loyalty, enthusiasm, and guidance, New Boston High School has become a school which graduates look back upon with pride. J. P. We, the Senior Class of 1968, will at last have our dreams come true in graduation. As we review the past few years many fond memories come to our minds. We recall that as Fresh- men we were bewildered and afraid, as Sophomores we knew our way around but had little recognition, as Juniors we were upperclassmen, and finally as SENIORS we were at the top. We feel that our class is the best that has ever graduated from New Boston High School. During the past few years we have been the backbone of the athletic program, the band, and the aca- demic program. This is readily seen in that most of the All-District athletes and band mem- bers from our school were Seniors. Also the Seniors constituted about two-thirds of the Student Council. We feel that we have left a proud heritage and hope that the Senior Classes of the future will follow the fine example that we have set.
