I’m only 54 years old. but in my game that’s considered well past middle age. I came along around 1924, just shortly after World War I. Those were the days of Jazz. Rag-Time. Flappers, the Black Bottom, the Charleston, and college kids eating gold fish. Some of you remember. I’m a school and I think that’s about the best job a building could have. At first 1 was an elementary school and high school com- bined. I even had a gymnasium inside me at the same time. Over the years I’ve served my community well. Probably over 20,000 boys and girls have used my facilities over the past great years. I’m still in service you know. Oh yes! I’m standing in New Bloomfield, Missouri serving 275 High School students each year. Most of my other building friends in surrounding communities have been replaced, but not me, I serve on-and-on-and-on .... In the past few years I’ve had the feeling I’m deteriorating. My upper walls are now held together by steel rods running across my length (through the attic) and termites have been working on me in the basement area. Of course no one ever put storm windows or fire escapes on me. Part of me is a cafeteria now, and it is located in another part of my basement. Now the water does come in. My kids have to wade the water many days to get to their lunch. Really folks. I’m tired, and I’ve served you faithfully for 54 long years. I need help now, and only you can give it to me. Our boys and girls need more room and safer facilities than I can offer. With the addition of a cafeteria-auditorium combination and five class-rooms, I could close my top floor and still be of service to our boys and girls. I’d be proud of that, and I’m proud that you think so much of me - I know you do, because you’ve kept me around so long. Just think, you’ve replaced almost everything around you many times over, but you’ve kept me. I love each of you dearly and memories of many of you are still in my halls, but I’ve done my part faithfully and I’m ready to be retired. 2 Administration BOARD OF EDUCATION AND ADMINISTRATION Mr. Robert Williamson - Superintendent TOP ROW: Ollie Shaon • President; Paul Renoe • Vice President; Howard Berry • Member. We managed to find our way through the next six years with our goal being to reach junior high. We entered junior high in September of 1972. This was a rather rough part of our journey, learning to make the big change from one class room to another. But the rough part was over sooner than we though as we quickly became accustomed to the change. After our graduation from junior high in May of 1974, we started a very memorable part of our journey. The next three years were filled with both happy and sad memories of dances, ballgames, special friends, and school activities. Little did we know that the one year of our journey that would go the fastest was our last year. Although we all worked hard our senior year to reach our goals, we still managed to have fun. Our senior play, “The Phantom Strikes Again, was held in November. Following this was Homecoming 1978, other dances, Hobo Day, and Dress-up Day. On May 21, which was our Baccalaureate, we took the first step toward the end of our 12-year journey. The next day we boarded a bus headed for Rockaway Beach, Mo., for our senior trip, the last time the senior of 1978 would be together having fun. We returned from our trip on May 26, to take the final step at 7:30 p.m. the same night with our graduation from N.B.H.S. It was a long and unforgettable journey. We would like to thank our parents, sponsors, teachers and friends for all the happy memories we are taking with us from N.B.H.S. The graduating class of 1978 would also like to say goodbye and good luck to all of the students and faculty that will be returning to New Bloomfield next year. Sadie 50 Libby Mrs. Toni Link First Grade Michael CLASS WILLS We. the seniors of New Bloomfield High School. County of Callaway, and State of Missouri, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will. I, Ron Baker, will my ability to come to school without having to have an excused absence to Jacky Holt. I. Susan Baker, do hereby will my above average grades to Tammy Colter in her four years of high school and to Lorna Renoe I will my soccer ability so that she can become the second Pele of N.B.H.S. I, Joyce Boessen, being of unsound mind and body, will my ability to be on the Newspaper Staff and my position as co-editor to Kassie McKim. (Good Luck!) I, Allison Case, being of sound mind and partly sound body, do hereby will my Volkswagon (Red) engine trouble to the honorable Tracy Taylor. I, Vickie Colter, will my position as co-editor of the Yearbook to Shelley Trammell. Good Luck! I, Mark Crump, being of supposedly sound mind, do bequeath my ability to get out of classes, run around, and goof off to anybody that can use it. I, Mike Cuno, will my ability to stick by someone like Sadie to any man brave enough to try it. I, Doug Custard, will my ability to skip school without getting caught to Alan Berry. I, Richard David, will my ability to put up with people like Lisa Schuster to anybody who feels they can. I, Melodie Essen, will to Nancy Davis my ability to miss school and be late to almost every class without getting in trouble. I, Randy Farris, will my uncontrollable hair to anybody who will take it. I, Ronnie Faust, will my books and tests back to New Bloomfield School to keep forever. I, Virginia Hoffmann, being of semi-sound mind and body, will my ability to get the paper out on time to Linda White (you’re going to need it!) and to anyone who dares. I will my ability to roam the halls without a pass and not get caught. And to David I will my heart because I love him. I, Michael Hopsecker, being completely crazy, do will my killer disposition to Mike Edwards because he’s too nice a guy. I, Katherine Jordan, will my ability to get through four years of high school without studying to any of next year’s freshmen who are willing to try it. I, Maxine Lynes, will my position in left field to Sheryl Goff. I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did. (Good Luck!)
