Class History When the Class of '71 took their first tentative steps into Miss Josie's first grade in 1958, few of us had the slightest idea of what the twelve years before us would hold. But, as time went on, the events began to unfold. In May, 1967, as eighth graders we made our first graduation march. Our freshman year was spent with Mr. Jatho as our sponsor. As sophomores, we were again sponsored by Mr. Jett. Dur- ing this period we established the old-fashioned box supper as a new money-making project of the Class of '71. We gave one also during each of the next two years. Junior activities for the class took place under the sponsorship of Miss Brenda Bang (now Mrs. Scheperle) and Mrs. Barbara Kussow, who was replaced by Mrs. Vaughn second semester. In No- vember, we presented Spring Prom Magic. In December, we introduced the new, rather astound- ing junior tradition of throwing our Christmas tree out the third-story English room's window. In May we sponsored the Junior-Senior Trip to St. Louis, where we visited the zoo and Busch Bavar- ian Brewery, and watched the Cardinals get beat by the Astros. Our busy senior year was spent with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Scheperle as our sponsors. In April we presented The Boarding House Reach as our Senior play. Hobo Day and Dress-Up Day were among our May activities which were topped off by the Junior-Senior Banquet and a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks and a cruise on the Larry Don. Baccalaureate was held on May 16 and on May 20 twenty seniors received that long-awaited high school diploma. We would like to thank every parent, teacher, and friend who helped turn those scared first grad- ers into the young men and women who graduated that night. May God help us get through these next years as happily. The (en seniors that went all twelve years together. Class Officers: President, Greg Keesee; Vice-President, Richard Childs; Secretary, Debbie Cain; Treasurer, Roger Claypool.
