Rotary; being the largest sends over 6000 teenagers a year to virtually every civilised part of the earth worldwide. For the students themselves they get the opportunity to learn about another culture by living with local familys far better than a tourist ever could. GMY MATE! G’day from Down Under. During my stay in the U.S. I have done and seen many things that will make my year here memorable forever. Tilings like lazying on the beach in Florida, hiking the Grand Canyon, checking out China Town in San Francisco, gambling in Las Vegas, sinking a canoe in the regatta and of course a hot time in Canada on the senior trip. These are only a few of the great things I got to do; things I only ever dreamed of. But when I look back on my year it was the time I spent in New Berlin that made me feel like a real American. It wasn’t just the basketball games, or the Winter parties, the pep rallys, or even Mr Dixon’s 1st period class. It was everything I ever did. The friendship people showed me from the very start let me know New Berlin was home. I thank both of my senior classes and of course ray family's who put up with me throughout the year. I'm only sorry that I didn't get to meet everyone during my year here. I look forward to the future and one day coming back here. keep smiling Anthony Bakx Australia The Kxchango Studenl spends alot of time giving speeches about his home country, trying to share his own culture with the people he meets. Often they are faced with touchy political questions and have to use delicate tact, so as not to offend anyone. By far the most important goal of the exchange program is on a larger scale. Rotary International sends teenagers around the world to close the gaps between our cultures and make a big step forward in world understanding. People are more willing to believe foreign teenagers over the stereotyping of T.V. when it comes to international affairs. The Exchange Student essentially is a young ambassador for his country. It's not always official though. Many exchange students travel during their year to get the full experience available to them. Anthony Bakx for example travelled to well over half of the U.S. states in a number of Rotary organised and personsal trips. It is an experience most teenagers never get to realise. Over the past years, she has always been there when we needed her. Even when she had problems of her own, she always found the time to help us deal with ours. For this, and the many other things that she has done for us, we would like to give her our sincerest thanks. Dedication 51 Senior Candids 53 Seniors What is VoPro? It’s a PROGRAM where students “Learn to Earn.“ It’s a STUDENT gaining special skills. It's c PLACE where self-confidence grows. It’s an OPPORTUNITY to become independent. It's a PATHWAY to a professional future. It's a GATEWAY to economic freedom. It's a SYMBOL of pride and self-respect. It's a KEY to success. Boces 54 VoPro courses are scheduled for one-half of the school day (2 1 2 hours), Monday through Friday, and they follow the home school calendar. Thus students spend half a day at the Center and half a day at their home schools. Veterans and other adults are also encouraged to enroll in daytime programs at each of our VoPro Centers to update themselves in their field or learn a new trade area. Evening programs for adults usually operate for one or two nights per week for about ten weeks, these courses are more basic and specialized. Interested adults may contact our Adult Education Division or call the Vocational Services Coordinator at either Center. What We Have To Offer! Our unyielding desire to win and constant hustle were two formidable combinations that made us all winners. Miss Gorton wanted to win as badly as we did and along with being our coach, she also proved to be a good friend. The support from our spectators was outstanding and appreciated very much. For the first time we had both a Junior Varsity and a Varsity team. This gave our younger players the opportunity to expe- rience the intensity of real games. Those of us who had the pleasure of watching them play were thrilled by their enthusi- asm and hard work. They may not have received a lot of recog- nition but to us every one of them were all-stars. There is his laughter and smiling face That could never be taken away And all the times he shared with us He fulfilled his life each day. With every minute that passed him by He defined the meaning of kind All the things he did for others He cared through all his time. Only time can ease the pain With his love insied our hearts All the mem'ries, we'll reminisce With those, we'll never part. Angie In Memory Organizatioo 85 Varsity Basketball J,V. Basketball Chee Football Officers Administration 90 Congratulations to the Class of 1987. There is a special affinity here. As you entered the seventh grade, I started as Principal at New Berlin School. Throughout the six years we have spent together I have watched you grow and mature into competent, confident, self-reliant individ- uals. You have experienced many successes both as a class and as individuals. There has been an occasional setback which helped you maintain your perspective. As you go on with your life may you contin- ue to draw upon the knowledge you have acquired in your thirteen years at New Berlin Central School to help you make the decisions which will make each of you a contributing member of your community, state and nation. Best wishes for every success. Mr. Torrington Richard A. Lalla: Superintendent Row 1: Herbert Torrington, Gary Potter, Richard Lalla, James Wood John Salley, Ross Iannello, Harry Senior, Harry Huth, Barry Chri To the 1987 Graduates - You have worked hard to reach the pin- nacle of high school achievement. And, yes, there is life after high school. It's a life of new experiences and even greater challenges. It's an exciting life. Accept this life, meet the challenges, and learn from the experiences; the rewards will be plenty and life fulfilling. Best Wishes R. James Wood, President New Berlin Central School Board I, Marie Kelly, Gerald Griffith Row 2: Jerry Halbert, istian Administration 9 I don't know how she does it, but when that first bell rings, she's ready for the day ahead. Teachers in and out now, for answers she must know, They're greeted with a sunny smile, she really is a pro . In between there's filing by the name and by the grade, items brought for lost and found, coffee to be made. At last the day is ended, how has she stayed so cool? She loves her job and we love her, the secretary of our school. By: Dorothy Woodham Beverly Carpenter: Attendance 5-12 Faculty 92 Marie Kelly: Secretary, Superintendent Administration 93 Class of '87 Steps Forward In a few short months the Class of '87 of New Berlin Central School will be preparing for commencement exercises and readying themselves for a start entrance into a very complex world. They, like most graduates before them, will tread unsurely and make mistakes. They will adopt new causes, change philosophies, find new hobbies and search for the greater meanings of life—all this while trying to seek out a living and stay ahead of the Came . However, unlike many who have preceded them at N.B.C.S, I think they have a better chance at winning. As a group, the class of '87 has the odds in their favor. There are few classes that do. They are a happy group and an academic minded group. They have shared the ups and downs of growing up and grown closer because of it. My faculty colleaques and peers have labeled them a good class-surely a mild understatement. They have been a great group compared to those that have come before and probably many that will follow. The odds are certainly in your favor. I will miss you. Mr. Dixon Virginia Howard: English Thomas Dixon: English Facul ty 94 Faculty 95 Tribute To A Teacher A teacher is a person who constantly strives to reach greater heights as a builder of lives . . . The rest of us will escape to the stars! Mr. Cray Thomas Gray: Science Wayne Aldrich: Science Janice Gregori: Science Faculty 98 As the days pass I watch so many changes occur from one student to the next. Many light and humorous experi- ences to the very tense experiences mold and change each one from day to day; and you'll be surprised how ones thinking will change over time. I cannot pick just one or two seniors and leave the others out for there is so much laughter and growth in each one. So I ?will share one general observation and a word of advice. People who throw dirt on you don't always mean to hurt you and people who pull you out of trouble don't always mean good.-----And when you're up to your nose keep your mouth shut.
