Rotary Exchange Student Christine Schneider Hi! My name is Christine Schneider, but some people call me Chriss or Chrissy and some joke Frenchy ... I come from tbe village of Furdentsim in France which looks like New Berlin because of its denseness. At first I would like to thank all Rotarians who made it possible for me to enjoy one year in the USA, because without the exchange student program I wouldn't have had the opportunity of being here. In France, I have already graduated from High school, so when I go back in June 84 I can go to a college. I have been in the USA for only 2 months and I know that I have a lot of friends. I love doing all kinds of sports especially tennis, volleyball and skiing. When we speak about USA we think about: sky-scrappers, pollution, drugs and hamburgers ... of course it's only stereotyping the USA. It will be a great experience for me to stay one year, so I can learn the language, the American civilization, their habits and customs. American people are very friendly even if they sometimes show distrust. Another point which suprised me is that teenagers aren't as free as we are, maybe because they have some restrictions that we don't have; so they are more tempted to break those restrictions. What's different too is school, the students joke around, speak out in class with their teachers, and they have fun with them. The schools here aren't half as strict as in France but I like it. Thanks for your help and comprehension, it will remain graven on my memory. Christine Schneider 28
