CLASS OF 1960 HISTORY It all began in September of the year 1946 when our kindergarten class of twenty five came noisily storming down the hall. These students, whose minds were so eager for knowledge, were: Sandy Abrams, Beatrice Benjamen,Wanda Benjamen, Gerry Brownell, Elizabeth Busch, Warren Camp, Eugene Chase, Charles Dart, Gloria Davis, Carl Eihol- zer, India Fairchild, Patricia Franco, Rose Gilbert, Barbara Holl, Sarah Hendrick- son, Barbara Hoag, Eileen Johnson, Julia Jones, Alana Moore, Roberta Sickler, Tom Slentz, Helen Warren, Juanita Weaver, Sandra Weaver, and Nate Williams. Undoubtedly, Mrs. Manchester looked at us with an air of bewilderment and thought This is going to be a hectic year. Nate and Warren, who refused to stop fighting over that bright red fire engine, invariablely disturbed the entire class, and were sent to stand in the corner behind the piano. What they did there we'll never know'. They must have enjoyed it because they were sent there often enough. Of course,Warren'8 activities did not end with this daily incident. After school he spent his time tormenting the girls on his way home. Infact, I, myself still owe him a punch in the nose. In first grade our class enrollment increased. Beverly Ballister, Veronica Grac- yalny, Doreen Johnson, and Catherine Williams were added to our motley crew. It was a thrilling and an alluring transaction when once a week we were allowed the priv- iledge of going to Mrs. Robbin's room to read to the big sixth graders. We had no new additions in second grade, but Arthur Boice joined our happy group in third grade. It must be that most of the boys had a crush on their teacher, Miss O'Conner. Judy Sawyer joined our class in the fourth grade. We shall always remember Mrs. Greene's room and those weekly visits from Aunt Juel. Whenever she came, her work was just dandy. She filled all the kids with goodies and candy. She pulled up a ch- air, and untied her bow, and watched with a smile while her eyes were a-glow. We shall always remember Mrs. Jager for her kind and understanding nature, and Mrs. Robbins for her bird-hunting and story-telling. Julian Webb, after joining our sixth grade class, had a memorable experience with a ping-pong paddle. As the old saying goes: If you can't talk it in at one end, try the other. In seventh grade Vada Hine joined our group; eighth grade, Dan Lacey and James Harrington; ninth grade, Walter Cassidy; tenth, Gary Elliott; eleventh, John Backo and Shirley Kalinoski; and twelfth grade, Mardele Cummings and Don Simmons. At the start of Junior High, we became imbued with one major goal - our senior trip. We worked toward this goal by selling pencils and paper in Mr. Whitney's home room, and by holding class bakesales. The end of our eighth year was highlighted by our Eighth Grade Commencement Exercises, held June 1956. Our high school days had finally come. Now, more than ever, we had to work to- gether on our many money raising projects. We held various activities for this pur- pose. A number of these were: bakesales, skating parties, selling of refreshments at sport events, and the Junior-Senior plays; Mystery at Midnight and Wedding Spells. Our Junior play, Mystery at Midnight, held the audience in full suspense, and since Bud Webb left out the entire plot in th first performance, they must still be waiting for the outcome of the play. In contrast to this, our Senior Play, Wedding Spells, left the audience laughing. In the spring of our Junior year, we held our Junior Prom, Sea Fantasy, and in December of our Senior year, the Senior Ball, Fantasy in Frost. We, the class of 1960, look to our graduation and the future with hopeful eyes and happy hearts, for graduation is the culmination of our high school career and the beginning of our adventures in the wide-wide world. Class Historian - Patricia Franco o C’w CO LO We, the Senior Class of 1960, of the New Berlin Central School, in the County of Chaos, State of Bewilderment, United States of America, being of hopelessly unsound mind, with sawdust in our heads and precious rubber in odr necks, about to jump from the frying pan into the fire, do hereby make this, our Last Will and Testament. To Eleanor Benjamin and Sharon Williams, we leave Nates talkativeness to be divided between them. Gene Chase leaves his easy-going ways to Dick Hatzenbuhler. John Backo leaves his lead in the Senior Play to Harvey Huth. Sue Hazard is left Lizza's quiet ways. Charles Horstman is given our Columbus Boys, Don Simmons Charm. To Dick Talcott goes Warren Camps vocabulary. Mary Williams is left with a dream man and Kay Williams' happiness. To Jack Chase, Dan Lacey leaves a fire extinguisher. Bud Webb leaves a map of Sherburne to the Junior boys. Linda Burdick is left Eileen Johnson's hair cut. Carole Slentz is left with the Slentz name to be used as Tom would. Walt Cassidy wills his English knowledge to all. Roberta Chapin is left Helen Warrens silliness. Carl Eiholzer leaves his build to Sabra Gage. To Bill Todd goes Carlie Darts shyness. Sarah Hendrickson leaves her love of school to Bob Deal. Wanda Benjamin leaves her wild, reckless ways to Cheryl Angell. Warren Salmon is left Alana's talkative ways. Gary Elliott leaves his - How about that - to Bill Sweet. Beatrice Benjamin leaves her petiteness to Jim Honeywell. India wills her love for speed to Chris Burke. Pat leaves the Franco name to brother Joe. Shirley Kalinoski leaves invitations to her house to all. To Dave Frink, Vada Hine leaves her flirtatious eyes. Mardele, Barb Hoag, Judy Sawyer leave their - rock - collection to the Junior girls. To Janice Williams goes Julies ever present energy. Bev leaves her ways with the teachers to Mary Williams. To Judy Curtis goes Sandy Weavers ability in sports. To Dona Enman, Ronnie leaves her secretive ways. Gene Dunham is left Jim Harringtons Doctors license. Roberta leaves her artistic talent to Karen Shafer for prom time. Rose Gilbert leaves Lyle Camp a few chickens to start a harchery. Nancy Hurlbutt is left Doreens even-tempered manner. Juanita leaves her ability to get along with Mrs. Deal to Larry Taylor. Barb Holl leaves her shyness to Sue Maples. Gerry Brownell probably leaves ---- Gladly. Art Boice leaves free passage to skating to Donnie Hoxie. Judy Kennedy is left Gloria Davis' Home Ec. ability. Sandy Abrams leaves all business subjects to Linda Sweet. These bring to you our most treasured gifts. We hope they will be used to the best advantage.
