DR. JOHN E. FOSTER April 5. 1962 To the Graduating Class of 1962: Recognition takes many forms: a handclasp, a pat on the back, use of a proper name or title, a salary increase, an emblem, praise, or many others. But various situations pre- sent unique opportunities for providing recognition to others, and these opportunities should be seized when they come, not chased when they are gone. In brief: Others will like you to the extent that you accord them recognition. 1 believe that if each of you in your daily work recog- nizes not only the good you are doing, but in turn recognizes the good of others, whether they be your superiors or sub- ordinates, you will find success in abundance. We of the Institute realize that during your stay here, you have found many things to be desired. We also recog- nize our shortcomings. There are improvements to be made, and they are being made. When you go out into the world, we hope you will recognize and remember the good we have tried to do. Forgive us the things we could not do. Congratulations and best wishes to you all, Dr. John E. Foster, President

Professor Briggs was Assistant Superintendent of Schools in New Bedford when appointed in 1958 to develop a pro- gram of Business Administration at the Institute.
