Let there be tabernacles of sci- ence and rooms where young warriors may be trained. 19 For th ere had been none of these. 20 And the fool said, My wealth is vast and, yea, my knowledge is not from the place which ye call school. And he proclaimed that a school should not rise up. 21 And the king listened to the words of the people; for he was wise. 22 And he called together the elders and the scribes. And they spoke one with another. 23 And the king sent forth a decree; and the school was built. 24 And brick was brought from the East and marble from the richest king- doms of Africa. The glass was as dia- mond, and the wood from the finest young saplings. 25 And the people were exceedingly glad; for theirs was a place of beauty and of knowledge. 26 For scholars journeyed from the ends of the earth, so that they might teach in the school that was called blessed. 27 And it came to pass that as the people multiplied, the school grew in stature. “4 ‘ S C ) ¢5 6) S Bo, » Q Z 4 D0 DLs is) 2 y) Peewee AY Cc Ps ooh % Cay, i, () Ms 2 Co) Y f 28 For the masons and the bricklay- ers were wise, and they added unto the school. 29 And the school was called NBHS; for the Lord God had spoken. And the school prospered; and the people were filled with knowledge. 2 The eyes of the world were once again on the city that was called Nova Bedfordia. And the love of the people was great, one unto the other. 3 And the great happiness was soon pluckt from the people. And they stretched forth their hands; for the plagues, which numbered seven, were upon the land. 4 And NBHS was plagued with the strikes of the teachers, and with food which was as the meat of frogs, and with tumbling walls, and a great multi- tude of students, and students who spake with uncircumcised lips, and rob- bers and evildoers, and teachers whose minds were sealed as tombs. 5 And the king said, Let a new school be built; for the destruction of NBHS is at hand. 6 And the people were of one accord; and the building of the school was begun. 7 And, yea, NBHS was abandoned. For the people had forgotten the joy they had shared therein. 8 Yea, a spirit hath not flesh nor bones, neither hath it wood nor marble. And the spirit of NBHS passed into the school whose stone was yet young. 9 And Nova Bedfordia saw grace in the eves of the Lord. 10 And there was great rejoicing in the city; yea, even unto Fall River.
