It was with deep sorrow and regret that the Class of 1954 noted the untimely passing of George L. Beach on March 27, 1954. Mr. Beach served New Bedford High School faithfully for 40 years in every department except languages. It was a labor of love for Mr. Beach, as his every thought was for the improvement and betterment of the school of which he was so proud. His greatest attribute was his understanding of and cordiality toward everyone who came in contact with him. Mr. Beach was one of us—a “regular guy.” His wit and friendliness will never be forgotten. New Bedford High School has lost a friend.

We, the Class of 1954, dedicate this yearbook, as a small token of our appreciation, to one of the finest members of the New Bedford High School Faculty. Muss Blackmer’s efforts in behalf of the school paper, the Dramatic Club and especially in the YOUTH FOR AN HONEST AMERICA program, are a lasting example of her true character and record of service to New Bedford High School. To Mr. Bonner, we also dedicate this book as a lasting memento of our appreciation for all the time and effort he has given to New Bedford High School and the Class of 1954. His work with the Dramatic Club, vocal music groups and as Faculty Athletic Manager will long be remembered, and will exemplify his spirit of cooperation and devotion.
