{Ree (OP 1b ee Hip, two, three, four —- down the street comes a crack unit of New Bedford High School’s R. O. T. C. led by Cadet Major Armand Gagnon and accompanied by its unique drum and bugle corps. Besides teaching the boys neatness, physical fitness, courtesy, and obedience to law, Sergeant Harold G. Kendall and Lieutenant Edward S. Irwin do an excellent job of im- pressing them with the fact that one cannot lead others until he has mastered himself; however, it seems the boys are quick to learn, for it has been observed that they do quite well leading pretty, starry-eyed young ladies in charming formals over a perilously wax- ed floor at one of the year’s biggest social events, the Semi-Ann. 28

JUNIOR MINUTE MEN An efficient, patriotic, reliable group of young ladies and gentlemen have in four years handled a million dollars which has bought a B-17 Flying Fortress, twenty jeeps, and a light tank. Our basketball team places us in a prom- inent spot on the map of New England, but this aggregation gives us nation-wide rec- ognition. Yes, you're right. It’s the B. B. H.S. Junior Minute Men we're talking about. 27

GAMS The feminine counterpart of the R. O. may be found in a smart group of young lassies snappily attired in white shirts, black ties and skirts, and gray overseas hats cocked at jaunty angles on highly held heads. In this battalion led by Major Joyce O’Neil and supervised by Miss Lord, girls not only learn self-control and grooming but receive basic training that would no doubt be priceless to a future WAC, WAVE, SPAR, or Marine. 29
