statesm n of th future The Wrangler Club was organized in l9lO by l-l. B. McLinn, former superintendent of schools, and has been an outstanding boys' club of NAHS since its formation, Marvin Oakes has sponsored Wranglers since l9-42, except during the three years he was in the service. Club membership is limited to twenty-five boys chosen from the senior, junior, and sopho- more classes. The prospective member must have an A or B average in English and social science. The purpose of the club is to promote Public speaking, discussions, and debates, and to par- ticipate in any worth-while function of the school or community. The major activity of the year was the presen- tation of the melodrama, The City Slicker and Our Nell, which was a request performance The cast included Lewis Pry, Robert Flynn. Patrick Flynn, Donald Moser, Richard Riely, Don Lee Miller, Morton Wolfe, Ceorge Kraft, and David Caylor. The Wrangler Cup Contest, which is an ora- torical contest open to any boy or girl in NAHS. is sponsored by this club. wom n of distinction The Speakers Club was organized in l9l2 with the purpose of giving high school girls a chance to develop their oratorical talents. Wranglers, having been organized a few months earlier, is the oldest club in New Albany High School, but Speakers is the second Speaker officers who conducted the activities of the club were: standing-Juanita Ther, Joyce Lamke, Kathryn McFrye, and Beth Taylor, seated--Vada Kenney. oldest and holds the record for continuous operation. The Wrangler-Speaker Cup Contest, held in April, is one of the main events of the year. During the school year, Speakers and the music department often combine to furnish programs for the holidays. They gave choral readings on Thanksgiving, and produced The Christmas Pearl, a play presented for the Christmas assembly. All Speaker activities were not confined to the school, however. Speakers and their arch enemies, Wranglers, combined to give a dance for the basketball team after tournament time. They also gave a tea for their alumnae, and at Christmas they had a party for underprivileged children. Officers for the first semester were Vada Kenney, president, Kathryn McFrye, vice pres- identg Juanita Ther, secretary, and Joyce Lamke, treasurer. Second semester officers were Vada Kenney, presidentg Juanita Ther, vice president, Kath- ryn McFrye, secretaryg and Joyce Lamke, treas- urer. Miss Olleta Tyler sponsors the club. Another annual project of the club is the pro- motion of pep sessions. The social highlight of the Wranglers' activities for this year was the annual spring dance which was held at the Ne '-.f r Albany Country Club.
