MR. C. C. K.-XTTERJOHN I'riutipal AB. Indiana University M.A. Teachers College, Columbia The air-borne of nature-the winged insects and their feathered friendsgreach for unattainable heights through a divine plan of nat- ural selectivity and inborn instinct. Their human associates, endowed with reason. seek those heights by planned work and discovery. llumanityis objectives are both ma- terial and spiritual. Thus we have the jet propelled aeroplane and the One XYorld idea. lligh school students seek, with the effer- vescence and imagination of youth, those heights with a desire to unshackle civilization for better living. Theirs is an ideal of service. Both instinctive nature and reasoning humanity open the way to new heights by work, both physical and mentalgone by God-planned selectivity, the other by God-given reason. of the two, reasoning hu- manity visions new heights to be attained and finds joy in the work to be done. So our student body is challenged, as each senior class passes from our school, to reach for those heights their former school mates thought were beyond reach. May each senior be inspired by school-day ideals to carry to new heights in service and in work their material and spiritual desires for a better society among world nations. University C. C. This is the nation's highest educational accrediting agency. Our school is only the one hundred and sixty-third of lndiana's eight hundred high schools that has been so honored. The 1948 graduates, iornier, and future graduates can value their diplomas with just a little more pride since the school has inet the test of a detailed inspection and has been adjudged as ranking with the nation's best schools. The senior class furnished the leadership necessary to develop the student activity phase of the needed program. L'l1flC'I'ClZlS5IllCIl and classes yet to enter high school have the responsibility of keeping the student participation of the school on this high level. The Ctllllllllllllty through its school trustees has pledged the youth of the city the very best in educational opportunity by the preparation for and application of this rating. .Ks your superintendent of schools, it is my sincere hope that parents, teachers, and students will always respect and cherish this coveted honor of the school and city and see that nothing happens to lower the standards of educational opportunity in New Albany. llarry R.
