Y , May 26, 1933. Miss Helen Green, The White House, VVashington, D. C. Dear Helen: The disappointment, when your letter came stating that you would not be able to come to our reunion of the Class of '23, was felt by every member present- ' The reunion was not only a success but a pleasure as well. Our hearts were made glad when hands clasped once again after an inter- val of ten years. The only drawbacks were the vacant chairs of those too far away to come. Everyone, who did not attend, sent a letter and each letter was read at the big meeting held in the auditorium of the new Higxhg School on Vincennes Street. I will try to give you a minute description of everyone and each event. Our chairman, .Iewett Hull, called the reunion together and read all the letters of the absent ones. Yours happened to be the first one he read. Then came three letters from the missionary fields. One was from Irma Dome, who is a missionary in Chinag Char- les Kendall's letter from India was interesting and Mary VVood told us much of Korea. A letter from the Hawaiian Islands proved to be from Robert Clapp, who was appointed postmaster of the Islands last December. Jacob Dowerman, who owns a large hotel at Key VVest, Florida sent his regrets. When the letters of Lieutenant Morris fBobby, xxxxxuu llllllffl

19 me SQUIER a men 5 you knowj and Captain Bowling were read, the crowd cheered. They told of their experience on board ship, in a very interesting manner. Of course, it was no surprise to hear of the achievement of Cathryn Trautmen, Nellie House, and Welman Shrader, who are studying music in Europe. They were entertaining when quite young. After all the letters were read, each one gave a brief description or talk of their failures or successes during the past ten years. New Albany's leading newspaper was well represented. Right on the front row sat Helen VVells, editor, N. McKamy, sport writer, Martha Hopkins, social editor, and Walter Kiser, cartoonist. You should have seen Mary Green. She is quite a promising designer and wore one of her own creations. Next to her sat Vir- ginia Leptic and Ethel Dooley, who are our humane oflicers. VVho would have thought that out of that big Class of '23 only eight would take up stenography? 'But those eight were there. They are: Beatrice Diedrich, Blanche Huntsinger, Thelma Meredith, Helen Irion, Ruth Gross, Meredith Bohannan, Agnes Coleman and Gladys Bence. One of the best talks of the evening was made by Vernon Lopp. He is a great lawyer and is celebrated all over the South and VVest. One of the most successful men financially, is John,Miner, who owns and operates a chain of movie shows in the Three Falls Cities. He has working under him, as managers and operators, Bradley Beggs, Cecil Davis, L. Dillow, Gilbert King and J oe Lewellen. New Albany boasts of a multi-millionaire, who made his money by a wonderful auto invention. You remember Merrill Brown, I know. He owns the great c'Browns Auto Plantv east of the city and bids fair to out-rival Henry Ford. Several of the old crowd is employed there as,,mechanics, book-keepers and clerks. Those who said they worked for him are: M. Gledhill, H. Lowe, Joella Fox, Irma Voyles, M. E. Shindler, Geo. Shrader and B. Tighe. Just north of the city is the Tourists Camp which has many ex- tensive buildings and garages, controlled by Melvin Borgerding and Humphrey Miner. They have for their assistants the following: Edward Kron, Paul Corcoran and H. VViseman. Also Nellie Tot- ten and Mildred Venner, who take care of the woman tourists. The Grimes-J ones Company was well represented. Dan Thompson, Elizabeth Beers, Julia Ashabranner and Pierce Seal are on the editorial staff. Pat and Paul came too and Pat made a speech which made the old class laugh for he told funny experiences xxxxxxxu llllllffl
