-QYKJENIGR DLQTTEXXQ ORCHESTRA This lias been an unusually successful year for the orchestra. The work of the iirst term culminated in the recital given just before the holidays. This was the only appearance of the orchestra before the public because most of the time was spent in con- structive work in the regular practicing. The biggest thing of the season was the at-coinpaniinent for the opera Martha, early this spring. Nothing so difficult has ever been undertaken in the history of the organization and if Mr. Embs had not been sure that the orchestra was capable oi it, the public would have been deprived of a splendid program. Another thing which made- the year an unusual one for the orchestra was the trip to Charlestown to play at the commencement. This was the first trip the orchestra has taken in many years and it was greatly enjoyed by every one. The work closed with the annual recital given May 19, There was much talent shown in this concert throughout the entire program. VVith the graduation of this class, Mr. Embs will lose many valuable members but, although this always happens, each year, he succeeds in producing a better Orchestra. -4??'dENlCDR nrorrnee - I W, IVIUIU 17-Y lx'1'1fzf14' THEQGERNIAN CLUB In the year 15M-16, the German Club has upheld and even added to its reputation as one of the most active organizations in school. The German Club has always been noted for its entertaining and instructive meet- ings but this year it has been unusually successful in this phase of its work. A novel plan of having the programs furnished by the different German classes as represented in the club proved to be a Valuakle experiment, for in this Way a much wider field was covered and everyone was given a chance to show his originality. Much advance was made in the use of the German language in the meetings, owing to the fact that Miss Rockenbach offered a silver medal to tlte person making the most progress in German conversation during the year. After much rivalry and zest in the contest, the medal was awarded to Ruth Borkenheim at the last meeting of the year. Although no open meeting has been given, the German Club is not going back on its custom of having one big social event and it is planning for a picnic up on Silver Hills, to which all members and those who have assisted the club in any way, will be invited, A V , ffZ2::s'a , I S I A ' T E E.
