They are the sounds and sights familiar to The future business and office workers of Monroe,-iNeville's students. The clicking is a result of hard-working Typing and clerical practice students, and the strange symbols are actually characters from a shorthand manual. A scraping sound of numerous pens moving over sheets of paper issues from rooms where bookkeeping classes are in progress.
