Howard A. Wentz-Wellsville, Pennsylvania B.S., Lebanon Valley College M.S., in Education, Temple University Supervising Principal No young person today can afford to take the chance that time will tell. You must be willing to seek the opportunity rather than waiting for it to come to you. Never has there been a time when so many new fields of endeavor have been open to young people who want to achieve and take pride in accomplish- ment. In the fields of science, agriculture, industry, politics and social science the possibilities are un- limited. Industry is waiting with open arms for those people who are willing to start at the bottom. Indus- trialists are looking for enterprising young people with varied abilities who will make full use of their talents. Your future career is on trial just as is Democracy in the country. If either is to come into full bloom it means that each of us must be active, intelligent participants. Best wishes to each one of you. Sincerely. HOWARD A. WENTZ Your thoughts will soon be turning toward your hopes and aspirations for the future. In high school you have gained a little knowledge, but you still have much to learn. The knowledge you have gained will serve as a foundation upon which to build. Your future success and happiness will depend largely upon these two basic ideas. First, a deep, driving desire to learn: and second, a vigorous de- termination to increase your ability to deal with people. The first idea is the application of this quotation: When one stops learning, one stops living. Learn- ing is a continuous process and needs to be applied effectively to your daily living, to your job, or to your duties and responsibilities as a good citizen. This means essentially that you should perform duties beyond the daily task, do things you are not required to do, know more about your job than the other fellow, bear other people's burdens, go the extra mile, and set standards for yourself higher than anyone would dare to set for you. The other is developing skills in human relation- ship - your personality. This is the technique of get- ting along with and influencing other people, as well as your interest and services to others. This can best be realized by becoming genuinely inter- ested in other people and by respecting the dignity of man which is the true essence of democracy. With these thoughts in mind, I extend to you every wish for a successful and happy life. Sincerely yours, PARK A. HESS Park A.
