Industrial Arts students sent 43 projects to the 1987 Western Kansas Industrial arts fair at Fort Hays State University. Results were blue ribbon plus rosette rib- bon for outstanding projects: Tony Lutters, Travis Knotts, Bry- an Whipple, Brennan Good, Ja- mie Moore. Blue ribbons for su- perior: Dirk Myrtle, Tim Nuss, Justin Slagle, Jason Ferguson, Tony Lutters, Nyle Reinert, Travis Knotts, Arlen Walter. Red rib- bons for excellent: Tim Nuss, Justin Slagle, Beau Kraus, Nyle Reinert, Jason Ferguson, Tony Lutters. White ribbons for good: Bobby Sculley, Jason Ferguson. Thirteen students represented Ness City at the ninth annual Fort Hays State math relays. The freshman team of Yvonne Cross, Stephanie Erb, and Grant Janke placed first overall in calculations without calculators. Brett McCoy placed fourth overall in applica- tions of algebra and arithmetic. This year several students competed in computer contests. Five students took fifth place at Great Bend. At the Fort Hays computer contest four boys com- peted, and Jeff Barb placed sec- ond in drill practice and Brett Mc- Coy placed third in application. 1. Beginning woods students- Justin Slagle. The Quiz Bowl team placed third at Hays and at St. Mary of the Plains, first at Utica, at Healy, and at regionals. They advanced to the first State Quiz Bowl competition in Burrton and ended their season with a 27-6 record. Tim Hunter was their coach. The WKEA Academic team placed 2nd overall. The competition was held at Dighton. The business team placed first at the Brown-Mackie College business contest in Salina. Kim Winter took first in shorthand; Annetta Whipple, first in Typing II; and Allison Stout, second in Typing I. The senior members of the gov- ernment classes and sponsor Tim Hunter participated in the KSU Stock Market Game. They were awarded a plaque for first place in the Dodge City-Hays Region. 1. League art contest was held in Quinter. Jason Slagle took first place in scratchboard and ink category. Darla Goodman merited second place in textile design. Teresa Cross took second place in oil.
