AVMJMSZKAZJOtf Keeps Schools Organized School board members: Front row- Helen Floyd, Jerry Eckels, Mary Grumbein, and Kenneth Schlegel. Back row- Dwane Santala, Chester Ross, and Ernest McVicker Elementary school building February 7, 1986 was the be- ginning of the end for the ele- mentary school building. The Board of Education and the administration made a deci- sion to evacuate the sixty-four year old red brick building because of its unsafe struc- ture. Junior high students began attending classes in the high school buildings, and the stu- dents in grades 1 to 6 began attending classes in the ele- mentary building's east wing. The kindergarten students were in the Methodist Church basement until April 7, 1986, when they moved into the north end of the administra- tion building. The library moved into the gym of the elementary school on April 2, 1986. Superintendent Terry Karlin said, Obviously we re con- sidering rebuilding the build- ing. But with the depressed agricultural climate and the decreased oil prices, this is hardly the time to submit a bond election vote to the pa- trons of the district; however, we cannot continue to operate as we presently are.
