Mem'ries light the corners of my mind. Misty watercolor mem'ries of the way we were. Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind, smiles we gave to one another for the way we were. Can it be that it was all so simple then, or has time rewritten every line? If we had the chance to do it all again, tell me would we? Could we? Mem'ries may be beautiful, and yet. what's too painful to remember we simply choose to forget. So it's the laughter we will remember, whenever we remember the way we were. The 1974-75 Yearbook Staff would like to dedicate this yearbook to the way we were. MR. LYLE GOFF Superintendeni BOARD OF EDUCATION - BACK ROW: Lyle Davison. The choices include a variety of categories and the final winners are known as V.I.P.'s. N.C.H.S. seniors experience many unforgetta- ble moments - the glistening smile of a newly crowned queen, the thrill of an athletic contest, the bonding of friendships through social groups. 1. Dennis Powell, Music QappeEii ))m r Pe){o) on r JeHevision The A Cappella choir, under the direction of Mr. Dennis Pow- ell , met every sixth period to learn and polish a large reper- toire of music ranging from Broadway to classical work. The tedious task of attaining perfect attacks, releases, pronuncia- tions , and pitch was overcome by hard work and was rewarded by an appearance on television. During the 74-75 school year, A Cappella choir demonstrated its versatility by performing not only on television, but at the annual Christmas Concert, the Music Clinic at Scott City, under the direction of Mr. Lippoldt, and finished their season with an evening Spring Concert. 17 At one moment, tense, tired faces fill the grounds, and lights burn brightly far into the night as students cram for crucial final exams. There are also quiet times alone with one’s thoughts, treasured moments with that certain someone and occasions for gaining new friends. All these aspects of student life play a role in the overall development of the student and generate . . . more fun than a bar- rel of monkeys. The Kayettes had another busy, fulfilling year. October started out with delegates attending the Regional Conference at Kinsley. They helped the community by baby sitting during PTA meetings. The annual Cerebral Palsy Drive turned out successfully as usual. Halloween was celebrated by a costume party with prizes for the best dressed spook. During Christmas, each girl drew another girl’s name to exchange gifts and at the Christmas party, the gifts were distributed. Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a secret Sweetheart Sister, giving hints to her identity and a little gift the entire week. Then on Valentine's Day, each girl received a gift and found out who her Sweetheart Sister was during the week. In March, Ness City had the privilege of hosting the Unit Conference. Girls from six schools came together to share ideas. The Kayette Parent Party was a big success as usual. The parents came with their daughters for a night of entertainment and fun. The F.H. A., pep club, and Kayettes invited the 8th grade girls to a tea to acquaint and explain their organizations. 34 Kathy waiting for the next call in Xmas Bingo. Don't these spooks look spooky? This years Pep Club under the presidency of Kathy Davison set a pace in participation that will be difficult for succeeding Pep Club members to meet. Many successful money-making projects were enthusiastically attacked. Concessions were held at several ball games, advance movie tickets to Johnathan Livingston Seagull were sold and plastic eagles were sold to promote spirit. In addition. Pep Club sponsored a poster party and invited all N-Club members. Because of a paper shortage the posters made at the party were kept and several were put up for each game. Each week, hanging posters were judged, with the winner being awarded with the Eagle Spirit Claw. Pep Club decorated the goal posts and the float for football homecoming and enforced sta- dium rules. After football season, all players and coaches were invited to a football breakfast. Scrambled eggs and bacon, cinnamon rolls and juice were served. Coach Mattingly was presented a cake in the form of a foot- ball field. The Pep Club held a stomp 'em day, picket day and a spirit week. During basketball season all boys and coaches received gifts and food from their pep pal for a full week. The basketball girls and Coach Vahling were not neglected as they were honored with a pot luck supper. For the hardest working members who attained the goal of 175 points a pen was received at the All Sports Banquet, and next years cheerleaders were provided with funds to attend summer camp. 44 FIGHTING EAGLES! 1. President Ron Leiker guided the council through the production of a successful homecoming con- sisting of the election and the half time festivi- ties. Besides dealing with the lighter side of school life, the council heard and discussed com- plaints or suggestions of students in each session and accomplished more along this line than many realized. These exchanges gave the council rep- resentatives new insight into education methods and student government. Even though student council met every month most of its work was done out of session in the committees. In the last six weeks, student council held elections for the following year, thus successfully completing its duties for 1975. After our first game loss to Wakeeney, the football season kicked off with a bang and victory against opposing Lacrosse 27-0. Both players and fans exhibit a keen zest for competition, and opponents have developed genuine respect for Eagle power and prowess. Enthusiasm grips the fans as the Eagles appear for battle. Anticipation grows as the contest begins and the teams go into action. Losing brings disappointment but also adds determination to win the next encounter. Wanting to be out on their own and yet at the same time reluctant to leave, they tried to grasp each moment as it came but succeeded only in making their year unforgettable. 85 C‘Smo BAIN, GHONI - Pep Club 1, 2, 3, 4; Choir 2, 3: Kayettes 4. It didn't take long and we had figured out where our classes were, and also found out that you had to be careful of where you went and what you did during the noon hour or you would become another snuggy victim. Everyone's favorite of the teachers our freshman year had to be Mr. Winchester, our lab science teacher. Too bad good teachers like him only last for one year. The big event of our freshman year had to be our class party where the trophy case came out on the bad end of the deal along with the can- cellation of any future class parties. Our sophomore year was a fairly dull year where we just went to school and hit the books. So, come Junior-Senior Banquet time some excitement was long overdue, and we just about overdid it. To start off with, Mr. Wilhelm was served a goldfish along with his salad, which was not appreciated by the sponsors; and then after the party, a car carrying two severs zeroed in on a lightpole. Our junior year not muchhappened, even decorating for the Prom went smoothly. The best thing about our junior year had to beget- ting rid of the seniors ourselves. Our final year started off pretty well, we got to haul freshmen to the country instead of being the ones hauled out. One exciting time this year was the day when we had a full day of tests with a long noon hour, which some even took a longer noon hour than they were supposed to. So much for the lighter side. Tonight is very important to the seniors, a night that seemed like it would never get here. We have studied and worked hard to get here. I would like to say thanks to the community for providing us this school in which to receive our education and to have the opportunity to share ourex- periences. Now we can look back and feel grateful to our parents, who have pushed and encouraged us, to our teachers, who, in addition to teaching have taken the timeto listen to us and help us out any time they could, and to our classmates for their competition,it has pushed us to help make ourselves better. During these past four years we have encoun- tered all types of situations, as we look back we are happy with the way we have handled some of them and others we wish we would have handled differently. But the whole thing has been a learning experience for everyone as we have shared many happy times and a few sad times together. Looking back, we shouldn't be ashamed if we feel some sentimenti nstead we should be ashamed if we don't feel any. 1975 Salutatorian LEANNE SCHWARTZKOPF Due to lack of time, the 1975 Salutatorian and Valedictorian were omitted from the yearbook. To correct that oversight, we add these pages de- voted to those two honorees. Following is a copy of LeeAnn's Salutatorian Address: Mr. Stiawalt, Mr. Schmidt,Parents, Friends and Classmates--it was such a delight to me to know I might be Salutatorian, and really give a last salute to my school. Graduation is a mixture of happiness and regret, such a hurry and scurry, that it is hard to collect your own thoughts, but I have jotted down in rhyme, a bit of our thinking and a bit of our hopes. Our Senior year is almost spent, it's the 25th day of May. We're proud graduates of Ness City High, on this our commencement day. But what do you say when your last year is past and all your school days are through. You think of all of your yesterdays, but hope to make dreams come true. Here it is, 1975, four years we've had to wait. But through the tears and happiness. It was more fun to anticipate. We've had the very best of help, from teachers, parents, and friends. We gratefully acknowledge their kindness, on the day that our school year ends. Now we need no talk of yesterday, but what does the Future present. May our members all become leaders, or maybe even President. A task is laid before us, as it is, to the whole human race. May our lives and the action we follow, meet that challenge face to face. Questions, Questions, Questions, confront us at this hour. Will we foolishly, destroy ourselves. In our lust for gold and power. Or have we the heart and the wisdom, to make a stranger a brother. Or simply close our eyes, and leave his fate to another? Can we build a world of better things, all of our long years through. And finally, live life to the fullest, and be at peace with the things we do.
