Valedictorian Marlene Stum Marlene Stum ends her academic career at the head of her class, not an entirely new position for her. She has been president or a very active member of many organi- zations and extra-curricular activities in her high school career. One of her main interests has been in the speech field and she has pursued this even through her 4-H work, another field in which she has also excelled. She was particularly active in drama and received the Best Thespian of the Year Award. Probably Marlene's other major interest was music. She was a member of band for four years and also a member of the select Selgae Singers. In addition to speech and music groups, she was a member of Kayettes, Pep Club, National Honor Society, and the Yearbook Staff. Her time, effort, and academic ability were well rewarded at the end of the year when she was presented with the Reader's Digest Award, the Purina Award, the Betty Crocker Award, and the State of Kansas Scholarship Program Award.
