Although we hate to leave our Alma Mater, we are proud to be seniors. And we are proud of our class. Why shouldn't we be proud? We are a group of workers, geniuses, and—clowns. Maybe the clowns are predominating a little. On September 2, 1948 thirty-nine eight-grade graduates found theirwayup the steps to high- er education. John Campbell was Superintendent of Schools, and Ralph Edwards, Principal of the High School. Some found school to be pretty good stuff while a very few decided it wasn't a place for them and later quit. After a little acquaintance with our classmates and teachers we had our first class meeting. Marion Anderson was appointed as our sponsor. We elected the following officers: Frederick Fow- ler, President; Wayne Haas, Vice-President; Wanda Matkins, Secretary; and Joe Stegman,Treas- urer. Then came the long, awaited for day-----initiation. Although the seniors were quite hard on us, we had as much fun as they did. The girls having to braid their hair in more than eight braids, wearing short, old dresses, lots of make-up and different stockings and shoes. The boys wore old jeans with their pant legs rolled up, a green patch on their jeans (seat, naturally), T-shirts, different stockings, and shoes. All day long we carried with us a large catalog. And we humbly bowed to the dignified seniors every time we met one. Before the end of the term Mildred Mathes and our class president, Fred Fowler moved away Harold Bolejack quit us. Our football team was very victorious, losing only one game. Other sports rated high, also After a successful freshman year we had three months of vacation. It was great, but getting back to our sophomore year was too. We welcomed Paul Andree as our new Superintendent and Clay Brown as Principal. Having lost Marion Anderson, Dorothy Wells, Charlotte Brickler, Jeanette Livingston, and Wilma Preston from our faculty, we gained Delmar Dey, Margie Kyle, Anita Kanak, Leland High, Warren Stone, Harry Lunch, Edith Linn, and Harry Linn. This year we elected Joe Stegman as President; Gary Rothe, Vice-President; Dolores Rohr, Secretary; Wanda Matkins, Treasurer; Phyllis Mudd, and Joe Stegman, Student Council Members. Our sponsor was William Goldsmith. Gerald Munsch ran out on us to take up farming. With our new coach, Delmar Dey, a girls basketball team was organized. Several of our girls participated. We had good results in all sports this year. By the time our third year was reached we had learned to appreciate the value of honest toil and tried to show this realization by interest in school and social affairs. This year thirty-seven juniors climbed the steps of NCHSonce more, gaining Maurice Korbe, Patricia Dugan and Mildred Mathes. Zatis Murphy joined us toward the end of the term. We lost Bernard Schuler who left us to work on the farm. Mildred left us later in the year to enter into matrimony. Harold Durst and Martha McIntosh were chosen as our sponsors. The juniors took their places in athletics, proving ourselves very capable in football, losing only one game with WaKeeney. Before Christmas the Junior Play entitled OFF THE TRACK was presented to a large audience in the grade school auditorium. Our greatest event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet given in honor of the seniors in the grade school auditorium. And so with careful selection of our President, Wanda Matkins; Vice President, Wayne Haas; Secretary, Kay Petersilie; and Treasurer, Joe Stegman; our third year ended. Three months passed—and then for the fourth time 38 students came back to enrol I as seniors. Again Harold Durst was chosen as our sponsor. We were very sorry to lose Enid Walter, who finished school at Bazine. We gainedCarl Neuhauser, and Everett Stewart. After class election with Buddy Petersilie as our President; Mell Wendler, Vice-President; Ramona Mauch, Secretary; and Gary Rothe, Treasurer, we took up the school routine, determined to make this, our last year, the best one of our four years inside the walls of N.C.H.S. Again this year we held high in athletics, having an undefeated team in football. On the night of April 3, we presented our Senior Play entitled FOUR FLIGHTS UP, under the leadership of Jan Zpanzy. On the night of April 26, we were guests at a very lovely banquet given us by the Juniors. The Theme was Hawaii. Then, on May 9 we took off for Rockaway Beach, Missouri. We made it a real sneak trip since every one thought we were going to the Rockies. We had a lovely time with swimming, horseback riding, taking pictures, etc. On our way back we stopped in Kansas City and stayed all night in the Pickwick Hotel. This trip will be long remembered by the Senior Class. The class of '52 has done its best to leave a mark in the upholding of our school and if suc- ceeding classes should overshadow us, we will rejoice. If they don’t measure up, we will regret it. None of us are beautiful and few of us are exceptionally brilliant, but we are numerous and all of us are proud to be graduates of '52. We shall not depart without leaving our thanks and grateful appreciation to the faculty for what they have done for us and offering apologies for all we have caused them to suffer. We are indebted to them for what they have so tediously tried to teach us. They beseech us not to men- tion such a trifle, but we feel it our duty to give them the honor of what little there is. To the faculty we salute you and bid you a fond and affectionate farewell. Farewell-fair Juniors. Weep not. We pass, but shall not die. Stwptiecy, It's a quiet evening in the year of 1962, the date is May 19, in the home of Tony and Joyce. Tony John III and Yvonne Joyce are tucked in their beds. The house looks like it's been cleaned for a special occasion. But, why not, tonight's the reunion of the Seniors of 1952! While Joyce is checking the refreshments in the kitchen, Tony is watching a fight on TV. The doorbell rings and Tony yells to Joyce to open it because he is busy. She finds at the Door, Gayla Day, Phyllis Mudd, Donna Hogsett, and Velma Sauer, all of whom have left their husbands at home to babysit with their little ones. They immediately start talking about old times at school. Unable to talk above the roar of Tony's fight, they ask him to get another channel which is less noisy. The program he turns to is the one featuring Zatis Murphy. Or didn't you know that Zatis took over Jerry Lewis' part when Jerry had a complete nervous breakdown. Zatis is as funny on the program as he was in school, but here he gets paid for it. But where is that music coming from that we hear? Oh yes, it's Wayne Ragtime Haas and his orchestra. A nd who is his lead- ing trumpet player? None other than Everett Stewart. Just a minute, the doorbell rang. Well, look who it isl It's a New York model Theda Nel- son and her designer, Deloris Hawkins. Just then Tony yells from his TV set Come on everyone, Mel I is announcing a race. We all rushed to the set because we know that Orrin is owner and manager of a racing firm. What kind of cars does he race? None other than Ford cars, of course! And it turns out to be one of Orrin's races and Leon Reibel is top driver. While we all were gaping at Orrin's Fords, Maurice Korbe, head football coach at Southern California, and Joe Stegman, manager of New York Giants, had come in the door. We had no more than exchanged greetings when Buddy Petersilie, a Vocational Agriculture teacher at K-State, and Gary Rothe, who now owns the biggest ranch in the state, came in right behind them. About now, Tony decides he is dry so he wants Joyce to serve the refreshments. Right then there is a loud commotion outside the door and we should have known who it was. Of course, it's those girls that always ran around together in school. Carol Bondurant who is now in training for the swimming events in the Olympics which will be held in two years; Kay Petersilie who is now the leading cosmetician in the House of Beauty in California; Marlyn Misner who is keeping house for her husband and Wayne Jr. and on the side writing household hints for the local paper. The Ness County News; Pat O'Brien who is home on leave from the Waves (and incidentally she is now a lieutenant); and Wanda Matkins who is now singing with Tex Beneke's orchestra. Boy, when that bunch comes in you really know they're here! Tony is muttering under his breath because they managed to postpone the serving of the re- freshments. Another noise is heard outside and everyone runs to the window to see what is going on. We see a big P I E truck come crusing to a stop. Out of the cab climbs Dean Schwein. Along with him is the snooker champion of Ness County, Ray Fercking. Behind the truck parks a car. In it is Ramona Mauch, the FHA of Ness County and Doris Fose, the skating instructor at Roller Reno, Wichita, Kansas. Another buzz is heard at the door and Joyce opens it to greet Donald Harris, who is farming and a veterinarian on the side. Unnoticed by the group is Jackie Leiker, a registered nurse at Mayo's; Dolores Rohr, an outstanding actress of stage, screen, and television; and Anita Vogel, who is working in our government department as an executive enters the room. Interrupting our conversation with the girls is an unfamiliar noise which is later identified as Carl Neuhauser's helicopter. Carl is superintendent of schools at Beeler. Besides him we recognize Vincent O'pat who is a well known author. One of his outstanding books is entitled TEN EASY WAYS TO LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE. Amid the confusion we recognize Pat Dugan, leading artist of today and Myra Burditt, who is now a Home Economic Professor at K-State. It looks like everyone is having a good time. Sure hope we don't wake up Tony III. Well, what do you know? Here comes the last of our class. They probably had to wait until they could close their place of business. In case you didn't know, Virgil Stegman, Vincent Wirtz, and Sever- in Gassman now own the local recreation parlor. We'll see you all in 1972. 1. Julius Caeser 2. Cute Eh 1 (BJS) 3. Cold? 4.
