For It's First Year, The Home-coming Dance Was A Success And I Enjoyed ItI” Phil Bretton And “Highway 61” Rocks Neshannock At The Homecoming Dance Cathy Cunningham, Junior Attendant One of Neshannock’s own played his favorite brand of rock and roll music for the Homecoming Dance crowd this year. Phil Bretton had always wanted to play at a school dance, so when Student Council decided to have a band for the dance, Phil’s band, “Highway 61” was a logical choice. The band is made of Phil and his brothers, and marked the last time that their bass player, Walter Fortner, would be playing with them. All members are alumni of Neshannock High School. At the dance, the band played tunes ranging from Springsteen to oldies to some slow songs that the band learned just for this dance. The sounds made for an even more enjoyable evening for everyone, and helped to make the Homecoming Dance a success. Homecoming Dance 17

Homecoming Dance This year, for the first time, Neshannock’s Student Council decided to hold its Homecoming Dance on the Saturday following Homecoming. Because it was a first time event, some people were somewhat skeptical about it. But, by the time the dance came about, everyone was anticipating what would come about. Because the dance was semi-formal, Student Council decided that a band would be appropriate. Phil Bretton’s band, “Highway 61”, provided the music, another plus since many people wanted to see Phil. Those in attendance rocked the night away as the band played their tunes. Later in the evening, the Homecoming Court, led by Queen Pam Evans, was introduced, then led a dance just for the court. It was a special evening, enjoyed by all, and one that should become a tradition at Neshan-nock. Thanks to Student Council for making the new Homecoming Dance a rousing success. 16 Homecoming Dance

Senior Nights Seniors Honored For Participation Three times during the year, Neshannock takes the opportunity to honor those seniors who have participated in activities surrounding the football and basketball seasons. This year, many seniors were pointed out for their contributions to the success of both seasons. On Friday, October 30, prior to the final home game of the 1987 football season, approximately 50 members of the Class of 1988 were honored for their participation on the football team, on the cheerleading squad and in the band and auxiliary corps. Later in the year, on Monday, February 15, two members of the Girl’s Basketball team were honored for their contributions to the team. The following evening, 13 members of the Boy’s Basketball team and the cheerleaders were honored as senior members. The 1988 Lance Staff salutes these seniors as well for their time and effort in these activities. 18 Senior Nights
