“It’s A Break Time To Get Away And Talk To Your Friends” Some new things came to the cafeteria during the past year. To begin with, a food service replaced the school run cafeteria. There was a definite difference in the menu - a much bigger variety of foods was served. However, there were many complaints about how much food was given and about the costs of extras (10 cents for a piece of bread!!!). Many students opted for the Lancer’s Line for pizza, hamburgers, and french fries everyday, or for the salad bar. Another change was the addition of octogan tables in the cafeteria. This was probably more dramatic at first since everyone had to readjust to the new seating. 8 Opening

In class, there are nervous shuffles and eyes begin to look at the clock. An occasional rumble from an empty stomach tells everyone the time of day - LUNCHTIME!!! Have an ambulance ready for the person who might wander in front of a classroom door when the bell rings, especially for 4th period lunch. Then the race is on. If you don’t want to stand in line, you throw your books on the shelves outside of the cafeteria and make a beeline to the lunchline. If you’re lucky, you might have close to a half hour to eat. But, of course, get there too late, and you may not even finish by the time your lunch period is over. Lunch period serves another purpose as well. Since study halls have all but been eliminated, lunch period is a needed get-away from the rigors of the classroom. Ask the average student, and it probably will be one of the best times of his day.
